Give him his money - for four years. No more! Enough seniors tied up into their 30s. Can’t afford more past their prime in four seasons. If he doesn’t want to take it, totally fine, he’ll understand. Don’t make the same trap mistake of forefathers past.

If you're gonna pay big money for a guy, it may as well be a high end two way center.

Pay him an annual amount more than others would. We need money when some of the young guys need it down the line and we’re tying it up with past primed by then. For the record I think he’ll age better than the others but given the circumstances of what we’ve done it doesn’t make sense to tie into yet another long term contract for someone soon to be 30.

Doubt it has a snowball effect on signing future fa’s

The second you trade Lindholm, you're looking for another Lindholm.

If it's within reason, you do everything you can to re-sign him.

It's obvious this team isn't going to tear it down, so if you're going to try to compete in this window, you need your best two way center.

Trading him, while it's obviously going to have its pros for the future leaves a massive hole for the current and would do significant damage to any kind of contending aspirations.

Lindholm played poor(by his standards) last year because of Sutter. You can tell he wasn't having fun anymore. That problem is gone.

If you can lock him up within reason, you 100% do it.

I think Hanifin, Lindholm, Toffoli and Backlund all get you good hauls. At least a first round pick and a good prospect. If the Flames are going to retool, this is as good a draft in recent memory to do it.

Tanev and Zadorov likely get you a 2nd+. Tanev's value has gone down due to injuries while Zadorov's has gone up due to excellent play as a Flame.

If you can't lock up Hanifin and Lindholm to term at good rates (8x8 probably?) then you have to move them.

Think the Flames move at least three of the seven before the trade deadline.

Lindholm is great, but he may not fit with the cap and would recoup a lot.
Lindholm is on your 1st PP, 1st PK, 1st line. Arguably your best defensive center, best offensive center.

Hanifin is none of this on d. Good, but just good. Replaceable.

I just don't see how Lindholm makes sense for this team anymore at the numbers he'll be asking for. That decision was made when Treliving went crazy last summer and traded a 1st to Montreal for the privilege of saddling this team with the Kadri boat anchor.

This season is when all those years of mismanaging assets and hand-sitting at the draft catches up with the Flames, and some tough decisions have to be made. A little intellectual honesty about where this organization is at, combined with the weak UFA crop, probably says this is the time to move pending UFAs for younger players to clean up the mess that the previous guy left behind. I'm hoping Conroy isn't foolish enough to take the bait on another huge retirement contract.

That’s not a re-tool , that’s a rebuild .

It's the fastest rebuild possible. It puts the team 3 years away from the playoffs and right in the window of the new building. I just hope that's a possible reason for ownership to bend on win now.
