It'd be funny if he would up in Fla and pushed Bennett to 3C

And then there are those markets who may have a spot available at 1C but would he really want to leave Calgary for, say, Columbus?

I still say he's going to age like a fine wine and be an excellent player into his late 30s. Of all of our free agents he's the one I want to keep the very most.

Sure, I hope Conroy has a plan if he signed.
But the team should always try improve the roster and look for future. If his return is more than expected, trade him. Or keep him if he is important for the future of team..

Term is the biggie. Market price at max term is no fly for me, let alone whatever above market is.
Turnover our coach/GM and deploying the exact same strategy would be a recipe for...much of the same.

Guys lets not forget both Johnny and Matthew were "interested in staying" as well and look how that turned out.
This is nothing more than posturing during what's likely Conroys #1 action item going into the draft, this is him leveraging the offer(s). Lindholm sadly is not going to be worth the 9M+ x 6-7 contract he's going to be asking for.

I just think Hanifin can land you a real prospect and I would hope Kylington can return to form.
Toffoli said he wanted to stay. Would hate to see what his deal is and I'd trade him too, but the return will be picks and prospects that are more than likely amount to nothing.
With Lindholm the window changes and I think Toffoli will be an asset for the next 3 years.

market price is Horvat/Larkin, or perhaps a bit more because those 2 dont have a 40 goal season or selke nomination. so 8.5 mil to 9.

Swedes like him age like fine wine. I see Lindholm having an excellent back half to his career. But man, would I like to see for once the Flames cash in on a high profile pending UFA who would return a king's ransom. Just once I'd like to see that.
I also don't like seeing Kadri, Huberdeau and now possibly Lindholm all signed for 6+ years into their mid/late 30s when it's pretty apparent the team needs some kind of retool. Don't like that one bit. Barring a massive rebound by Huberdeau, I think Lindholm is the best of the bunch though.

Exactly. If the Flames are getting the idea that Elias is "in the driver's seat", exercise some control over your own situation and trade him.

Comes back to Conroy’s question;
‘Do you want to be a Calgary Flame?’
If the Flames are offering Lindholm $64-68M, we will find out the answer.

If we’re trading Hanifin for a big haul of picks and prospects, I’m happy to pay Lindholm and staple him to Huberdeau.

Would be happy if it’s a decent deal. Could also mean Backlund gets traded. He should fetch a 2nd round pick + a prospect. If he, toffoli and Hanifin are traded for picks/prospects, it still leaves for a competitive team while restocking the cupboards pretty well I think:
Huberdeau-Lindholm-Coronato
Mangiapane-Kadri-Phillips
Pelletier-Zary-Coleman
Dube-Ruzicka-Duehr
Weegar-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Stetcher

If he does sign back I hope it’s under $9mill

I may be in the minority, but to me it is more important to figure out Hanifin first. If we can sign him to age 33-34, I would get that done. D would be in excellent shape.
Lindholm is great, but he may not fit with the cap and would recoup a lot.

This is my way of thinking:
Trade one of Backlund or Lindholm. If you can’t sign Lindholm, trade him now. Let the other team offer the 8 years. If we can manage an 8 x 8 (that’s what I would offer), then great. Trade Backlund right away. Colorado/Boston/Detroit, whoever is looking for a top 6 center can pick up the other.
If Lindholm is traded, I still don’t mind moving on from Backlund at the TDL if we’re out of a spot. Don’t think we can afford to lose both before game 1 unless we really want to tank, which doesn’t seem like the MO anyway.
I’m all for Lindholm here. Just make sure you’re managing the other pending UFAs in 2024 accordingly. I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t at least one or two trades involving the 7 players.

I would trade Backlund before Lindholm. His value will never be higher than it currently is (he's playing amazing hockey right now), and he's significantly older than Lindholm to boot.

I agree. I’m also worried that if lindholm doesn’t sign, they will overpay on Backlund .
