Do you know why things are called accidents? Because they are unexpected events. Also, this has the same vibe as: "This is why this is all so strange, you never, ever would have expected [this]" - former classmate of Matthew de Grood.

Yeah I laughed at that line of defense, too. Gotta give us money now, and your stupid citizens need to pray you didn't give us this money three years too late!

Well, I have a very loud concert at the dome coming up to go to.
Praying the acts don't rock so hard that they literally bring the place down.

Don’t worry, by agreeing to a deal the City has stayed the vengeful spirit of the Saddledome until the new arena opens. Nothing can happen to you under the protection of a public subsidy.

That’s ####ed.

The hilarious thing is that there are parents that love the #### out of their kids out there and yet because no one ever gave them any real, honest parenting 101, the way they went about parenting ends up traumatizing their kids deeply.
And many parents take offence at even the hint of a suggestion that they didn't perform brilliantly at the role (see: every teacher in the school system ever).
No, parenting doesn't put you on another level of enlightenment from an average, non-parent human. It just opened up a new can of problems somewhat unique to those who've decided to parent or happened upon it by ineffective birth control or drunken negligence. And sure, you learned the value of loving something more than life itself, and that's cool. But in many, many cases it was in fact toxic love with excessively controlling behaviour (or unconscious emotion negligence due to replication of faulty parenting styles from the parents' parents) that passed on generational traumas and toxic behaviors to child/children.
Outside of the exceptional case of a happy accident where a new pair of new parent were raised brilliantly by secure and non-toxic, loving individuals and replicated that effectively in their offspring, chances are the parenthood was very messy and something that was merely endured while essentially shooting in dark on many things, even with the best of intentions.
To tout oneself as a tier above people who opted for non parenting paths because one grinded out a C-grade 18-25 year kid project where they've likely imprinted a number of damaging deep seeded traumas in their offspring and left them to work them our on their own is hardly something to brag about.
Heck of an experience though, I'm sure.
If you're that one epic parent who did it right though, yes, that person deserves boat loads of praise and respect.

The problem is not “medical school is too expensive. Ergo, we don’t have enough doctors.”
The problem is we are not producing enough people.
These high value high responsibility positions go to the best and brightest among your population. If you have to outsource those jobs it is because your society is not producing enough new people to internally, fill the best and brightest quota.
Canada’s birth rate has declined every year since 2009.
That’s devastating.
|
You're incorrect about med school. I know multiple doctors that didn't get in on their first try and they literally didn't do anything other get another interview and get in on the second try. They aren't better for it, they just had a better interview or others had a worse interview etc.
Nursing is very difficult to get into, yet we need nurses. Do you think that someone with a 3.75 GPA is way worse than someone with a 3.8?
Open more seats, it's really not complicated.
We don't have need to outsource these positions, we're being lazy.
I never said that med school is too expensive (though it's way too expensive) I said I school is too expensive. How many people choose not to go to school too fill many of theses positions because it's too expensive.
At least with trade school the time is shorter and you can collect ei while you go.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have immigration,we need it, but there are several solutions to solve these problems.

I'm not even talking about foreign students. Bring foreign students, allow immigration but also expand the programs here.
We should open more seats etc here first, then look at immigration in my opinion.

Nah, it's a fairly arbitrary cutoff line. Of the ~300 successful applicants each year, maybe 10 will become kinda ####ty doctors. If we accepted the next 30 best applicants there's no reason to believe more than 1 of them would become ####ty.
Now if we doubled to 600 then sure, there might be a slightly higher rate of #### apples from ranks 501-600...but hard to say how significant it would even be. They still have to pass exams and demonstrate competence throughout training before they get a license to practice independently.
And not getting accepted at first doesn't really change anything about the kind of doctor you'll become.

It really makes one wonder why CSEC dragged their feet for so long, as an imminently crumbling Saddledome is an existential threat for them. But I suppose it is possible that they actually are that incompetent.

The safe thing to do would be to move all Flames home games to Edmonton’s new rink until our new one is built. The Saddledome is just too dangerous for people to go watch hockey in it right now.

I never said that.
I have to remind myself everyday, 50% of the people on this planet are below average intelligence. There are a lot of posts here that make me believe that the percentage of that population is far more represented and also like to yell the loudest and most often.

Sure, you said there could be unexpected events when it comes to the Saddledome. You then said it has the same vibe as when neighbours said they did not expect their neighbor to be a mass murderer.
