Leafs got to Game 5 of the 2nd round this year after 20 years of not winning a round. While Treliving was in Calgary the Flames never got past Game 5 of the 2nd round. That's the obvious line that he has to cross.

If the Leafs get to game 6 of round two he will still be roasted...it's cup or bust in TO. Third round might buy him some goodwill for a year or two.

If anyone thinks CP is being biased and harsh about this move stay off Leaf sites and social media

Treliving is the biggest "vibe" GM in the league. For a guy that's accomplished, really nothing beyond a decade of mediocrity with the Flames he's getting a promotion? I hate the Leafs so I am ultimately happy about this but really strange choice.

Leafs fans in general are now kinda jaded. Each year they come in super positive thinking this is the year, and when they inevitably bow out there’s simply a shoulder shrug. I don’t think the fans are that hard on them or management as Montreal fans are.

He has an aura of competence. And I imagine in negotiations, he gives off the impression of being in control and getting what he wants. He has some good deals to his credit, but yeah the sum of the parts has always been disappointing. He kind of GM'ed the Flames team into a bit of a corner and now he is gone.

Anyway like I said they probably won't win but be real how would the Leafs winning with this core be all Brad?

Tons of people think this is a poor hire, but call me out. You hate everything Flames until they leave.

What move is he gonna make? Sign Matthews that Kyle would have signed and then be capped out and bring back 90% the same team. Because I bet you that is what happens. Leafs aren't making big changes.
It's not Brad I'm defending and more your act that gets old discretiding every person that leaves the Flames organization for another team. It just gets a little old over the years.

Now now settle down. It’s healthy to have different views. Even strong ones. Not the end of the world.

The people dissing Treliving's time in CGY make me laugh. The guy built by far the best Flames teams we've had in Calgary in 30 years and he did it despite a string of terrible coaching hires and having to constantly shovel #### against the tide in an undesirable market with a decrepit old arena that made the Flames outside appeal even worse.

Conny has huge shoes to fill and I'm not the least bit surprised Treliving was snapped up by another team in a millisecond.

That's very low bar for success. And the coaching hires were on him. He did okay but let's not act like he was bringing heaps of playoff success or cups to Calgary. The Calgary Flames story didn't change much under Treliving's time.

I don't know what the ownership situation is like in Toronto but I'm not sure its going to be much easier for Treliving there, undoubtedly it's an even more difficult market than Calgary in terms of public demands and scrutiny. Will be interesting to see how he does.

Because I said if they win next year with 90% of the same core Brad shouldn't get all the credit?

That would go for any new GM not just him

Anyway do you think they will win the cup next season? I don't, and it's basically the only way to succeed in TO at this point

And like 80% of social media is "discrediting" this guy right now but again call me out.

His track record is what it is and his dad is good friends with 25% owner and and chairman of MLSE

I hope that the Leafs hate having draft picks.

Perhaps the way that fans evaluate Gms and the way teams do is quite different. I have long stated that BT was held in high regard. Perhaps other teams looked at his body of work, and the constraints he operated under and concluded that on the whole he was a solid executive.

Of course it's quite different than those that stated he would never be given a GM job again - to see him now land a premium position within weeks.

Or he is going to work under those same constraints if you believe that MLSE is as hands as Edwards along with Shanahan being involved.

So they got someone with the same experience.

Well it certainly seems like Dubas tried to push back and was shown the door. Seems they want a good PR person as GM and to manage by committee. Brad is certainly good at the PR

Yes, at the end, Leafs fans will praise him and blame their problems on the owner. Treliving is excellent at that for sure.
