The economy weakening wasn’t her record. And the reasons she lost have nothing to do with raising minimum wages or even taxes. They have to do with myths about which party’s economies do better.

Yup...he's @ 110 now. And the NDP candidate is leading Tyler Shandro by less than 100 votes atm.

I'd say pretty accurate.
Many voters find both distasteful and arrogant personalities, pathological liars, who bend the rules and hide a lot of things politically (to varying degrees), and both bending over backwards for special interest groups and lobbyist supporters.

So we're inevitably going to have NDP supporters lamenting the fall of society and the stupidity of Albertans, and conversely we're going to have UCP supporters doing a victory lap and showing their ass.
Tomorrow, we're all still Albertans, and we're all going to share the same 4 years. Perhaps instead of firing shots at each other we can try to figure this out together. I know that's probably hippy-dippy bull####, but I remember what Dave Chappelle said after Biden defeated Trump 2 years ago:
Quote:
I would implore everybody who’s celebrating today to remember it’s good to be a humble winner. Remember when I was here four years ago? Remember how bad that felt? Remember that half the country right now still feels that way. Please remember that. Remember that for the first time in the history of America, the life expectancy of white people is dropping. Because of heroin, because of suicide. All these white people out there that feel that anguish, that pain, they are mad because they think nobody cares, and maybe they don’t. Let me tell you something. I know how that feels. I promise you, I know how that feels. If you’re a police officer, and every time you put your uniform on, you feel like you’ve got a target on your back, you’re appalled by the ingratitude that people have when you would risk your life to save them — Oh, man, believe me, believe me, I know how that feels. Everyone knows how that feels. But here’s the difference between me and you. You guys hate each other for that. And I don’t hate anybody. I just hate that feeling. That’s what I fight through. That’s what I suggest you fight through. You got to find a way to live your life. You got to find a way to forgive each other. You got to find a way to find joy in your existence in spite of that feeling.
|
See you tomorrow, Alberta.

The new thread after this election should be "The UCP is no good"

They needed to rename the NDP to literally anything else 2 years before this election. If Notley had done that she'd be preparing a victory speech right now, but she decided the team colors were more important than winning under a platform of good governance.

I'm not really sure why the NDP made so much of the election about Smith, and 'who can you trust'. The old UCP cabinet is all still there, and they should have run on Kenney's record, and Smith as a side character. Water under the bridge, now.

This is what I am most curious about, especially with a lot of reports of MLAs going door to door with the message of “don’t worry about her, we will take care of that”

Thought the NDP ran a pretty mediocre campaign and lacked a knockout in the debate. Right or wrong it’s difficult to change the perception they were partially responsible for the 2015 downturn. I don’t think most folks follow the bozo eruptions enough to move the needle. Hopefully the results tighten up a bit so Smith feels a bit of heat and avoids going off-road.

I don't know, it's kind of similar. There are people across the country that will never vote for certain parties and there are people who will vote for their "usual" party no matter what. The Liberals got 36.73% of the vote after the sponsorship scandal broke.

One is a bigot. The other is merely vapid. One’s actual policies are horrific and the others are middle of the road.

Even the Alberta politics thread for the last couple years was unreadable. Was the usual suspects circle jerking one another and attacking anyone with a different view point.
