It seems crazy to me that Conroy will be the oldest GM in Flames history at the point of being hired.
https://flamesnation.ca/news/how-exp...-managers-been
Quote:
Here’s the general trend, going from youngest to oldest:
Cliff Fletcher (1972): 37 years, 1 month, 22 days
Doug Risebrough (1991): 37 years, 8 months, 6 days
Craig Button (2000): 37 years, 9 months, 3 days
Darryl Sutter (2003): 45 years, 1 month, 21 days
Brad Treliving (2014): 45 years, 1 month, 21 days
Jay Feaster (2010): 48 years, 5 months, 2 days
Al Coates (1995): 49 years, 11 months, 2 days
If either internal GM candidate, Craig Conroy or Brad Pascall, were hired as the new boss, they would each be the oldest guy to start that gig. Conroy turns 52 in September, Pascall turns 53 in July.

Wait - Sutter and Treliving were the same age - to the day? Or is that a typo?

He’s not a “nice guy” though. He’s an emotionally intelligent leader. Its often called nice guy by people who lack that skill set. Its a way to talk down the skill by more directive leaders.
Conroy to me is a credible leader people see as non-manipulative. Given where this team is, it’s actually a great hire. I really think he has what it takes to work with people and gain trust. Its a far more sustainable approach than say Sutter who mind games. It works, until it doesn’t and it breaks quickly. As we saw this season.

Still by far the best Flames GM ever imo.

Given how close Maloney and Treliving are I don’t think this hire happens without some sort of reference from the old guy.
If there is one thing I hope Conroy learned over the last decade, don’t screw up the coaching hire.

I keep thinking of Conroy as one of my favourite Flames growing up. I just realized I'm a couple of months older than him.

I believe it is a typo - Tre was 44 yrs, 8 months, and 10 days when he was named GM.

Labeling an energetic, socially adept person as a "nice guy" is just a lazy descriptor.
Plenty of guys wish they had Craig's personality and demeanor. For them that level of enthusiasm would be exhausting.

I wish I could find the clip now, but near the end of the season when the Flames lost and the playoff hopes were slipping away, there was a shot of Conroy watching the game and he looked pretty pissed off. He just always seems happy, so it kind of surprised me, but I am guessing that there is a level of intensity to his personality that doesn't face the public.

Someone pointed this out one time and I can't not see it: If you mute this clip, you'd swear it was playing at double speed.
