The scope and scale and number of things to do is extraordinary. This is the first time since companies started charging $90 that I’ve been like… yeah, okay. I’m 17 hours in and only just made a dent in the content. Always getting pulled in a random direction to explore or do side content or check out some cool thing. It’s magnificent.

Oh and there is proper dungeons this time if anyone was wondering, with cool unique boss fights that have excellent music. I’ve done the first one and the dungeon was fun, if a little short, and the boss fight was grand. The story is also much more interesting and deeper than BOTW, which didn’t have much.

It's honestly super impressive how they've iterated on Breath of the Wild. Admittedly I'm not far in, but having the sky, the main landmass of Hyrule, and then the Depths all stacked and connected just feels super impressive. It's a small thing, but the little cave systems are a super cool addition too.

Things have definitely changed on the main map since BotW too. Nothing huge yet from what I've seen, but the activity on the ground is completely different for sure. I landed on the Great Plateau expecting some easy going exploration since it was the first area in BoTW, and boy did the game quickly change my mind on that. I still don't even know -what- attacked me, but boy was it terrifying.

I'm waiting until I get time before I let myself get into this game, but seeing all the kinds of things people are building in it I'm impressed by how Nintendo has managed to kind of bridge gaming generations with this version of Zelda. It seems like they've very thoughtfully and carefully brought in some of the elements of sandbox gameplay that people who grew up with Minecraft and Fortnite are used to while still keeping true to the Zelda lineage.

I am having a little bit of trouble building things. I tried to stuff a bunch of fans onto some logs, but not enough to take off and fly. I did manage to eventually get all the first 3 shrines with some difficulty.

I'm not as creative as some people, but here's my premiere build so far. A rocket powered platform and custom launch ramp to send Korok buddy here up to his buddy on top of the cliff.

Zelda is now a game for learning engineering.

There are like side tasks I didn’t even realize until my daughter was playing and I saw her find those Korok travellers.

The game otherwise seems to guide you a bit more than BoTW, I think.

I'm getting a feeling that building is a big integral part of the game? Not sure how much I like that.

This is cool though.

I just got into it today. I preferred how botw was just wide open with less guidance, but this is still open enough to feel free and jump in as deeply and quickly as you'd like, so I'm still loving it. The creativity of the building is also a very cool new dimension to the game.

For sure. I saw this in Chestermere and had flashbacks to the game.

I thought I wouldn't like the building stuff if it was too invasive or too elaborate but I'm warming up to it a bit. Seems like 21 is the limit for # of logs to connect to each other end to end.

Knowing that 21 logs is the limit makes it sound like you're getting pretty into it.

I find I've been enjoying the underground area the most. I raided Hyrule Castle for the best weapons I could right off the bat and went underground to take on all the darkness with my four hearts. It reminds me a bit of playing botw on master mode. I have died many times against big and small monsters, but having fun. There are some very cool big monsters underground, and the atmosphere of darkness makes the battles more fun

Great game.

Just a suggestion for anyone that sees a block fall from the sky and wonder wants up there, think about "do I have a way to get back down" before you try... Took me 20 minutes of tries to get down, though I guess I could have fast travelled away but still.

But yeah the building is growing on me a bit, though it does feel like you can cheeze some stuff but I guess that's my choice.. either cheeze it with a LOT of logs or do it the "right" way lol.

I can't remember if BotW combat was this hard and I just need to re-learn how to fight or if I'm just too weak yet but I get one shotted a lot.

Also I found an icicle, fused it to a spear, and I could freeze enemies with a jab. Cool!

I die a lot as well. I'm trying to find as many shrines as I can to build up my hearts. Fusing weapons and shields helps a lot.

I've been totally neglecting the shrines apart from getting the fast travel points. The open world is too much fun. The challenge I find myself facing more and more is running low on materials. I feel like I came down to Hyrule with an abundance of arrows and everything else, but not so much now.
