Does the SLC NBA arena have the same sightline problems as some of the other basketball arenas out there, like San Fran?

Heck no to Quebec City. Its already exhausting enough cheering against Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal adding another team would be too much.

Houston or California seems to be ideal.

I can't see the NHLPA being ok with this team sitting in limbo playing in that disgrace of an arena with no revenue coming in from a larger arena.

I can see this putting up with that for another year rather than suspending operations of the team for a year.

Unless they loan out their roster and we get Valimaki back

If Balzac ever gets a team, they need to be the Balzac hares.

Yeah I am sure they will put up with that for 1 more year if the relocation can't happen asap but they would probably want something in place that the team has a relocation plan completed and ready for 24/25 season.

That guy I posted earlier posted that don't rule out Salt Lake City the owner seems interested.

It's slightly better because the ice is centered rather than offset like other buildings, but it's still pretty bad...

If they were to move to SLC, the Maverik Center, where the ECHL Grizzlies play, might be the better option for a temporary home. It was built as the main hockey venue for the 2002 Olympics. Although it has a smaller capacity than the Delta Center (10,000 compared to 14,000), it would likely be a better hockey building.

The location is decent. Downtown Phoenix has its drawbacks but is good if you're trying to attract traffic from all over the valley. The best location is actually where the current Cubs spring training facility is. Mesa botched this when the arena debate was originally happening and it boiled down to liquor licensing and the Mormon ran City council not supporting having that level of debauchery in their city. Glendale swung in an snapped up the stadium and the area from where they ultimately should have been - the confluence of 101 and 202.
The Suns just got a new owner. Hard to say what he does or does not want with the Coyotes unless he's ever talked about it.

I would hope the NHL would focus in on markets that have a history with hockey and a focus on the western region. Start with San Diego, Portland, or Salt Lake. If they can find a landing spot, then look in the central zone. That means Houston, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, or Indianapolis. After that look at possible emerging markets that exploit the southern strategy. San Antonio, Austin, Memphis, Atlanta (strike three?), Jacksonville or Charlotte. Last resort, go north. Quebec City, Mississauga, or Hamilton. Lot's of options, but all of them come with risk. Of course, they would all be better than the current mess in Phoenix.

The Suns have never wanted anything to do with the Coyotes, regardless of owner. But I guess there is always hope... and then hundreds of millions in renovations to the arena.

Would love to see Portland with an NHL team. Doing a west coast Flames road trip would be even more fun.

For many years, Portland was often mentioned as a destination for the Flames if they ever left Calgary. Former Trailblazers owner, Paul Allen was rumoured to not be a hockey fan and had no interest in putting a team into his arena. Since his death, Allen's sister Jody now runs his organization.
With an NHL team, they could probably sell some more ads to cover up all the empty white space.

I like the ideas of Portland and SLC.

1. Portland, natural Rival for Seattle.
2. SLC, , much more interesting place than ARZ.

I'm not celebrating the fall of ARZ hockey, but literally no other location has had so much life support. But if I was Bettman would I just let the thing die that I worked so hard to keep alive for so long. It's a mad dream.

The Hockey community they've built will die with them, that's a tough pill to swallow. It's a really sad time.

The owner is the only person who matters in this situation and they have a brand new one who appears to be doing the new owner speed run of making crazy trades and firing coaches. Who knows what he wants. If he can get them for cheap and thinks he can get them an arena - its basically an instant windfall for him if he has the interest.

Echoed. If it isn't to be, fine. But there's a lot of rejoicing which seems unseemly.

Any rejoicing is because they've been a terribly managed team all along and became a laughing stock. From building an arena in a terrible location, to getting kicked out of said arena, to playing a rink smaller than a lot of junior rinks. They basically were done in by the league allowing god awful decisions to be made and terrible owners to be approved.

I think the NHL can work in Arizona - but this current franchise has been a joke for a decade straight.

Has to be I think.

Most states and provinces have interstate rivalries.

Would a 2nd hockey team so soon get support in Portland?

So everyone should rejoice if Vancouver suddenly loses their team? Because aside from the arena, the same applies.
