Good. It was a disaster from the start.

Yes, and the seating is set up for basketball, so it would lose a lot of capacity to even accommodate a rink.

Great news nonetheless

I think the travel wouldnt be of much concern for at least a year or two
Didnt winnipeg play in the South East for a bit until realignment happened?
So if best deal for even a temporary season is in QC, I think the league just wouldnt make a change to divisions right away, and the coyotes would just travel more potentially

Oakland lost the Raiders and are about to lose the A's. So I could see them pushing to add an NHL team to Oracle Arena if they have willing investors.

Not sure that solves their problem tho.
Oracle makes the ‘Dome look like Little Caesars…

Move them to Quebec City and create a Canadian Division since there would be 8 teams, just dont force feed us as many divisional games as there was during covid.

The Grizzlies play in the former Olympic hockey venue from 2002, but it only has a capacity of about 10,000 for hockey (still an improvement over ASU).
Either building could serve as a temporary home until a new arena is built.

Oh well. I think the Yotes are cooked

The general population is sick of seeing taxpayer money getting funneled to rich people, as simple as that.
Tempe taxpayers care very little about having an NHL team, hard to blame them really.

The new arena in Milwaukee can host hockey games and hosted a preseason game last fall between the Wild and Hawks, but it has the same basketball problem as others which reduces its hockey capacity to around 15,000.

They are in Houston or Portland by the draft IMO.
But I'm not sure this is the end of hockey in Phoenix.
I think if Ishiba wants a team and is willing to invest in Footprint to make it suitable for hockey that an expansion team would work there in 5-10 years.
The team was sunk from day one by terrible ownership groups IMO. With new expansion rules and a smart owner actually willing to invest in the team for them to have a successful on ice product it would work.
Just needs some time to distance itself from all the baggage and poor management the Coyotes had.

I really don't know why the league has fought so hard to keep that team in Arizona, just a failed experiment at this point. Move the team, bring in new investors, charge a 300M relocation fee and be done with it. They won't have trouble finding investors, when they finally move the team and get a new arena the franchise value will double.

Two ways I see this playing out:
1) Meruelo initiates a sale process.
2) Meruelo elects to hold and search for a Plan B, at which point the NHL BoG — under intense scrutiny from the PA — votes to force a sale process.
If, after all this, they end up staying in AZ, I'll be gobsmacked. This was it.

The (now) T-Mobile Center (formerly the Sprint Center) in Kansas City is 15 years old, was built to woo either an NHL or NBA team and has only ever hosted preseason games for both leagues.
It has a decent hockey capacity of 17,544. Although, it has been speculated that the city government might not be willing to give up the revenue they currently earn from concerts and other events in the arena, so it might not be as lucrative as other cities could be (although sharing a building with an existing NBA team isn't likely going to bring in as much money either).
