Tempe voters reject the Coyotes Arena and Entertainment District

Could be seeing the final nail in the coffin for the Coyotes in Arizona.

Can the league possibly keep pushing for the Coyotes in Arizona now?

They can and probably will sadly.

This has to be it. Houston, KC, QC, take your pick of revenue.

Theoretically the team could be in a new city by fall. Granted, the logistics are tight.

Atlanta Flames announced a move to Calgary on a May 24th. Similarly, the Thrashers relocated to Winnipeg in late May.

Will have to stay west to keep the balance. Can California take on another team? Will travel easier.

Great news nonetheless

They need to move somewhere with at least one built-in headline.

Losing streak? "Houston, we have a problem."

Rough go on the road? "We're not in Kansas anymore."

Quebec? Nothing. Garbage.

I think Houston would be the NHL’s last pick, as it would probably command the highest expansion fees.

As much as this would normally spell the end for most teams, we have seen this over and over with the Coyotes.

I am skeptical that they relocate until I actually see the headline. They always find a way to survive. They have the resilience of, well, literal coyotes.

I feel like the NHL had to have a fairly decent contingency plan, knowing this was a very big possibility. So, it wouldn't surprise me to see them move this offseason.

I would love it, but I doubt the NHL wants to upset the symmetry.

But, they have an arena, a potential owner, and probably not a place the NHL is holding out for future expansion.

Moving a team is so much more complicated now that franchises and expansion fees are worth so much.

That sucks, but merely keeping the coyotes in Arizona has taken an inordinate amount of work and creativity. Arguably much more than it's worth, when there are western US cities that would be instantly more viable markets that could theoretically make it work next week.

Time for Bettman and Co. to call it on Arizona.

There's maybe 2 untapped Cali markets left isn't there? San Diego and Sacremento?
