The Oilers are an extremely flawed hockey team which throughout the year was propelled by a record breaking PP unit. The PP grossly inflated Oilers points in the standings and production stats (see Hyman, Nugent-Hopkins, Barrie (before traded), Bouchard (after Barrie traded) so they had themselves convinced they are an actual contender.
The Oilers are in the bottom half of the entire league in 5v5 and they continuously refuse to address it. No one ever holds McReferee or Pissy accountable for their performance on their own side of center. Draisaitl was comically bad in Game 3, absolutely ridiculous... and McDavid is an absolute turnover machine in the neutral zone. I don't expect they will ever fix this part of their games since the desire to be the 80's Oilers comes right from the owner. As such, if the officiating is objective and fair, there is zero chance that the Oilers are ever going to win with these guys...... zero.
What is even funnier is that this year is literally their window. The salary cap is only going up $1MM and all their players coming off the books will remain either static or need a raise, and they don't have enough depth on the farm to backfill.
Derek Ryan - $1.25MM (guessing resign at $1.5MM)
Mattias Janmark - $1.25MM (will want $1.5MM min)
Ryan McLeod - $798k (will want $1.5-1.75MM)
Klim Kostin - $750k (will want $1.25MM - $1.5MM)
Nick Bjugstad - $450k (will want at least $1MM)
On top of this, Skinners new contract kicks in @ $2.6MM up from $750k and they need to sign Bouchard who currently makes $863k. Guessing Bouchard will do a bridge deal at around $5MM for 2 yrs or so.
I think they will try to move on from Yamamoto, Foegele and Kulak. It will take a sweetener to move Yamamoto and Foegele and they won't get much for Kulak (and he is one of their best dzone defenseman). I don't even think moving those 3 players for draft capital even allows them to break even.
The Oilers, and Ken Holland the supposed greatest mastermind ever, are in absolute cap hell and it is fantastic. There is going to be a massive crash up north and it will be beautiful.
Before the deadline I was hoping the Oilers moved Barrie out and let Bouchard play on the first PP. It would create huge cap problems for them. Exactly this is playing out since the move.
If you are Bouchard's agent and you don't get a nurse contract, why would you advise your player to sign more than 1 year for any less? Only risk for Bouchard is he gets traded. If the offer is $5M I'm signing for 1 year.
14 points in 9 playoff games and 19 points in his last 19 in the regular season games? Good luck getting him at $5M a year for more than 1 year IMO.
Why couldn't that game have happened on Saturday, when an Oiler fan I'm dating was in town so we went to Oilers Central aka Trolley 5, and I had to sit through a 3 hour Greaser cocky love-fest in there during a blowout win? Being in that crowd for last night's game would've been delicious..
I don't know, I put attending an Oilers game, even a beatdown loss, right up there with getting an enema or receiving the clockwork orange treatment.

Haha true. Though when I was a college student up there, I went to an Oilers vs Sabres game where Buffalo won 10-2 that may be one of my alltime favourite live sports moments lol. The masochistic "We want 10!" chant that was ultimately fulfilled was all kinds of delicious.

The Goal-a game! 'Debacle of monumental proportions', fantastic.

He was having an awful season prior to the Barrie trade. As you say 19 of his 40 points were accumulated in the last 19 games of the season when he was elevated to the powerplay and over the 63 games prior only 21 points.
That idiot should've required to apologize on air since he made that stupid comment on air!
Agreed. Especially since Anderson stepped on a rake again in his written apology by effing up the spelling of Whitecloud's first name. What a muppet.
Quote:
Anderson on Tuesday released an apology: “This is totally on me and I sincerely apologize to Zach, the Golden Knights, their fans and everyone else for what I said. It’s my job to be prepared and know the backgrounds of the players and I blew it. I will be reaching out to the team to personally apologize and hope to have the opportunity to speak to Zack (sic) as well.”

Yeah
There was a 2 day gap between games 1 and 2 but the rest of the way it looks like every second day. But, I agree, I dont buy it for a second that that game 1 and 2 gap was because of rink availability.....
