I don't think that's debatable. A gun in the home is way more likely to hurt someone in the home than someone else. That's just one of the reasons I wouldn't own any, but I still think they should be able to be used in those scenarios, as rare as they are.

This is just a fundamental difference in opinion.

Why is that so difficult though? People are able to stay calm and collected in a variety of situations. But this is somehow impossible to figure out? If you have the wherewithal to get your gun out of its safe, confront the intruder, you’re probably okay to assess the situation. Literally from far away, you could shout “I have a gun” or “I called the police”. How many intruders do you think would continue to rummage through looking for stuff to steal?

I guess the question is, do you want them out of your house or do you want revenge?

If Nik smokes a home invader in the head with a cast iron pan, they got what they deserved regardless of the outcome. Firmly in the “play stupid games” camp.

What kind of idiot home invader would use the front door and ring the door bell? Wouldn't you want to go in through a side door or window?

Those that espose the use of guns in their home for defense are often the same people that don't keep them in safes.

Yet, this is what people are doing when someone rings their doorbell, try to retrieve their basketball from their yard or turns around in their driveway. They are perceiving a threat to their safety and escalate a benign situation into a deadly one.

next time anyone happens to ring my doorbell, remind me to get my frying pan first, just to be sure.

Sorry, meant someone inside, clearly intending to do harm. These wrong door, wrong driveway, wrong car shootings are so insane, the shooters should never see the light of day again.

I want the potential consequences for breaking into someone's home to be extreme.

I actually had to look it up, because I couldn't believe that home invasions could be such a massive driver of people needing weapons in the US. It turns out that they are averaging over 1 million home invasions a year, since 2010. That's breaking into a house while people are home.

I hate to say it, but the reason for this high number could only be two things, to create such mass cultural behavior. Poor education system, and massive income disparity.

And then I go over to the Alberta page and look at the changes in the education system, and the Canada page and look at the changes leading to income disparity. 50 years ago, the US wasn't like this, so are we looking into Canada's future?

What race are those delivery men and postmen? Seriously though, that kid was shot because he was black and the shooter was 80 plus and senile. Very disturbing. You've got a situation where no one trusts each other and guns are easily in reach of disturbed and mentally ill people.

Wait until you find out how crazy easy it is to not break into someone's home.

The left keeps saying it's the guns that are the problem. The right keeps saying it's not the guns that are the problem, it's the people with the guns. Actually, the US has both a problem with their guns and a problem with their people. They also top it off with a polarization problem where nobody can get anything done by working together or even agree with each other on anything.

Another stupid example from last week.
