I didn’t have any issues with the press conference. The guy danced around questions that were totally irrelevant to the presser and anyone else in his shoes would have done the same.
I think the deal with Bean is that he was just fine as the VPFinance/CFO and then COO. That was his background in the oil industry going in. But he never held a president or CEO gig. So under King he could putter along with his finances and business operations skills.
But when King died, Bean was just automatically appointed into the role as the next most senior guy, and it’s totally out of his skill set IMO. He should have been interim, and they should have sought a guy more suited to the role. I have no clue what kind of guy Bean is, and it may be his communication skills are the issue, and not his actual decision making. But the shoes he had to fill were too big and not his style.

Many people from different backgrounds become CEOs. The fact that he is an accountant is not material to his current position in the CSEC organization.
It would be more strange if the president and CEO of CSEC was not at the press conference... although Ken Thrower, the head of corporate security for the Flames, might have been more entertaining than Bean based on his last name alone.
I got no problem with Bean. He was the employee chosen to thrown into the fire because Edwards is a coward who hires meat shields to do his dirty work.

I didn't like him at all in that presser. Though, I feel like he was there because Maloney was pretty frazzled and could've made an already super cringey presser even worse.
The team is going nowhere and is saddled with long-term contracts that we'll never be able to move. All that remains to be seen is how the Flames manage to get us to pay for their new arena without the public getting to vote on it.
I feel like you guys are saying this is dumb, but nobody is explaining why no CFO or CEO accountant is on media for a team?
Can you tell me why?
We still need solid answers from Treliving why he left. If I was running CSEC, i'd want the information. It's all about information.
My post is not about being dumb, or inflammatory. My post is why is an accountant at the head of the organization or on TV?
Well the answer is two fold. Firstly, lots of CEOs come from a business or accounting background. The interim CEO for the Maple Leafs, Cynthia Devine, has an honors business admin degree. She is the CEO of one of the largest NHL markets.
Bean was on TV as he was Trelivings direct boss. This was a show of leadership from Bean (although it was poorly executed) as he put his personal stamp on the choices the team has made. This is a very typical corporate move when a prominent figure either leaves or changes roles.

Presser wasn’t a good look for Bean especially when he started talking about reading books to define leadership. Really, you’re running a sports franchise and you need to brush up on qualities of leadership. Perhaps he wasn’t serious but you’ve had guys in the organization like Brad Treliving (you know the guy who just left) and from all accounts he was one of the hardest working people in the business. Maybe you could start your leadership search finding a guy like him…or you’ve also had highly respected hockey people like Brian Burke in the organization.
He was definitely in over his head and maybe that’s the last we see of him in front of a camera but if not he could read some books on PR if he wants to improve his communication skills to fans and media…
