I miss them too. I remember a smaller session I was at once, perhaps even 12 years ago or more. A guy, or guest of a guy actually wore a Oilers shirt or jersey. Ken King somewhat seriously joked with the idiot "and you're here drinking my beer, eating my chicken wings?"

I really enjoyed those sessions. Sadly haven't been to one since before COVID. There has been no fan or STH access to team or Management in years. I know King enjoyed them as well.

The ability to read the temperature of the fan base and respond accordingly.
And honestly, it isn't that hard.
He was trying to put forth an optimistic view instead it came across as tone-deaf, arrogant and out of touch with what is going on.

The guy sitting next to him understood what tone to strike: honesty and humility.

As an example, when you have just gone through a season with the worst tending in the league, no one wants to hear about your Vezina caliber goalie.

Again...all guys at that level in a corporation are about spinning and deflecting to make the organization seem better than it is. It's S.O.P.

I super enjoyed them. Every minute of hanging with all of the people down there at the end of a season. The meal, the respect for the STH and the transparency.

It was a great event and took the saltiness out of being out of the post season. Can we use Bean to talk to Murray and get a solid date for this for season ticket holders? Can't wait to interview the accountant on hockey OP.

Again, no offence to accountants.

No. That's not true. Not universally. And I'm not sure that's even an apples to apples comparison where what happens in the corporate world can be applied to the sports world.

He wasn't talking to shareholders. He was talking to fans.

If he's an accountant then clearly he must be a crucial lynchpin that underscores the success of this franchise!

He must be given more authority, more money and at least one...maybe two...helicopters.

Wait, what are we talking about?

The fans aren't shareholders per se, but they are stakeholders, especially the season ticket holders. It's still has the air of a corporate structure overall.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but that's always the way it goes from guys at the top. It doesn't mean that the masses buy it or agree, but it's pretty standard.

He's been trained to speak a certain way his whole career. We shouldn't hammer him for not understanding the nuanced emotions of a fan base.

I, for one, vote for Locke for President and CEO of CSEC.

Something might actually get done on the arena...

He’s been President and CEO since 2019. Treliving quit.

That's not the way it felt with Ken King.
There are different types of executives, and some are good at this type of thing and some aren't. I am not in position to judge if John Bean is good at his job or not. I can only say he wasn't good at that presser.

I think the connection is between the accountant and his role in the organization. Clearly working with Edwards.

Are we prepared to identify teams that take out their CFO? And again, in the interest of discovery if he is now the CEO of CESC that is knowledge. I know him as the CFO.

The other point is what other teams in the NHL have a person like this in the media?

I'm going to agree that it felt different with King, but I heard a lot of the same complaints about his pressers from fans.

He deflects too much.
He's not being honest with fans.
He's the owner's lapdog.

etc.

It's just the nature of having that job. Fans don't trust the corporate executive (nor should they) and they see them as being disingenuous.

They can call it "mutual", but it's clear from what was said that it was entirely Treliving's decision.
