Just average goaltending over the year would have put Calgary in the POs. Hell, two or three games with a little more luck do it. So with actual good goaltending, Huberdeau improved, Mangiapane having a better year, Calgary is where the pundits predicted this year.

Huberdeau- yes
Mangi- maybe
Markstrom- hell no. He lost to bottom dwellers down the stretch. His rebound was a mirage.

I know you hate. Markstrom, but he made the first two saves and if either of Calgary’s second or 3rd shooters score, it’s game over. Instead, Saros had to make basic saves.
All of Nashville’s shooters made quality attempts IMO.

I think Sutter showed owners that Treliving's the newly brought players were how bad, who don't have a leadership to take the team next level.
Sutter wants GM is fired.
And also saves his face like "I trusted to the team's highest payed players, unfortunately they couldn't complete the task. What could I have done?"

That sounds like a lot of things need to do a 180. Huby looked better, but he didn’t find his game at the rate we’re paying him to. I don’t think Markstrom is mentally strong enough to be elite through a whole season plus playoffs. I think we overpaid Mang.
I like some of those young guys for sure, but I don’t think any of them are game breakers. We need one. Our D corps is pretty good, but we still hemorrhage high danger chances, and have no one that can run the PP.
I expect us to be very average again next season.

Markstrom has looked fine in most of the games in the stretch, win or lose. Like tonight.
Go cheer for Edmonton now.

That was a slow and hard death to end the season. And, where does that leave the Flames - dead smack right in the middle of the pack for draft picks again and on the outside looking in. Pretty much mediocre going forward!

Lol now I hate Markstrom
He allowed 2 goals on 4 shots...one hit the post
1 actual save. He got a lot of the 3rd shot
It's not all on Ritchie who made a decent attempt...at least as good as the other two misses

Just want to say that I truly appreciate dialogue looking at the saves goalies are actually called upon to make

Trade the pick then. 2023 1st & Kadri for a bucket of pucks, who says no?

I think Sutter played Marky too much and it showed. He'd be great for a number games and then have a few bad one. It could be that Sutter lost faith in Vladar.

This season is disappointing because it was a well constructed team that had a lot of top players underperform for large stretches and had a lot of bad puck luck.
I think when the dust settles this team will look quite similar to how it looks now. A few spots taken by Coronato and Pelletier and Wolf. A few UFAs not coming back. Vladar traded. Same coach. Same GM.

A. Treliving’s contract is up and he probably will get better offers elsewhere. So the theory makes no sense.
B. Sutter’s “plan” backfired if he thought Huberdeau wouldn’t score. And any coach would have had Huberdeau in the first three shooters anyway. So the theory makes no sense.
C. Ritchie may be newly acquired but he isn’t a top paid guy. On your theory Weegar should have shot.
