If an old, religious, curmudgeon, boomer like Burkie can get it, I don't know why younger people who are currently playing cannot.

I did like his comment about the Russian issue. "There's no material threat that I can see, but if a player perceives a threat to their family, then they shouldn't have to participate." (roughly paraphrased). I think that's fair, but I do hope that can change soon and Russians have more courage to fight against those laws.

This is it exactly! Members of a church can knock on my front door with the intention of trying to convert me to believe in their faith but some of these hockey players can't just wear a jersey that is meant to represent inclusivity? I don't understand why they have to make it about themselves and their personal beliefs? Essentially they work for an organization that is hosting a night meant for everyone but instead they choose not to participate.......how are we still here in 2023? It boggles the mind

Next time members of the church, any church come knock on my door, I'm going to tell them that I can't talk to them because it's against my believe to talk to them. Come back in a rainbow outfit, then we can have a conversation.

Couldn't find the other thread but Chicago canceled their pride night citing protection for their Russian players.

This is the answer. Calling people names and bullying them into wearing a jersey is precisely the opposite way to convince people of anything. It takes the jersey from being a contentious issue where you dont know if a player is wearing it simply out of fear of being attacked and turns it into a truly positive symbol for those who choose to wear it.

Knowing players are wearing the symbol voluntarily amplifies the message.

Your hearts were coming from opposite places in your posts, though, the rest of us can see that.

The (mostly) great people of that country need to band together and overthrow their chicken kyit dictator and his cronies. No one can risk doing it from the outside, unfortunately. But without the peoples' obedience, that loser is powerless. Hopefully one day Russians will draw their line in the sand and decide enough is enough and join the west in moving towards an up to date society that isn't governed by prehistoric beliefs built on fear and suppression.

Perfect. I was getting worried with this new trend that we were going to see a dummy or two refuse to wear it.

I hope Zadorov leads the team out for the warm-up as an f-you to all the other Russians.

So the message is "don't worry, most of the people on the team are okay with you being here".

Why is this viewed any differently than a player refusing to support black history month. If that was the case not a single person here would defend a player not wearing the jersey.

Please explain why this is different? I'm curious how we draw the line in what intolerance is acceptable and what intolerance is unacceptable.

Drives me absolutely crazy that you can't just buy these jerseys.

Just a ridiculous "rule" from the NHL that these can't be sold directly to fans.

So much money could have went to charity if they sold the Indigeneous Celebration Night jersey, the Black History Month jersey, and now the Pride night jersey.

NHL Marketing at it's finest.
