I think Tkachuk would have signed if the organization had bet on him with a long term deal before he was fully established. He seems to be mostly about the money or definitely not taking a discount at least.

How much are the Flames missing guys like him and Hathaway.

Flames needed that money for impact players like Rooney and Lewis.

Tkachuk and Gaudreau get all the attention as guys we let get away, obviously, but it sure would be nice to have a team with Bennett, Lomberg, and Hathaway on it.

Even just for the style of play.

Spending Hathaway Money on the likes of Derek Ryan was a blunder.

Not sure if you are serious but I agree.

3 straight line guys with speed and ability to play on the boards. 2 of them left prior to Sutter but they all are perfect for this brand of hockey and I would say we would be a much more successful team.

I thought Derek Ryan was great in his time as a Flame.

No, I don't see a Tkachuk in there.
If NHL GMs were to do a complete re-draft of the entire NHL, I can't imagine many GMs using their first round pick to take 35 year-old Crosby if 25 year-old Tkachuk is still on the board. Same with 32 year-old Hedman. I'm not even sure anyone takes Draisatl over Tkachuk (since he'd now be separated from McDavid).

It amazes me how many people here underappreciate the complete package that is Mattew Tkachuk.

It is a little sad to see players like Hathaway, Lomberg and Jarnkrok having such good seasons playing for relative peanuts.

It would be nice to have some great value like that at the bottom of the roster.

Future prospect for a building team wasn't really the question but if you were drafting, you need to add in the even younger young guys who might soon overtake Tkachuk. Heiskenan, Thomas, Oettinger, Kyrou, Keller, Dahlin, Thompson, Robertson, etc.

I still don’t understand why Treliving didn’t resign Hathaway for 1.5M . Would save a lot of time chasing garbage bottom line forwards

Not sure if Lomberg would have made the Flames. He was irrelevant when he was here

And Jarnkrok just sucked, 2.1M is not cheap for what he showed here

100% serious. Lomberg didn’t bring a lot when he was here but developed nicely, while I loved the other two while they were here and like the way all three play the game now.

Would be perfect Sutter players. Good thing Treliving hired Sutter long after losing two and shipped the last one out despite him finally finding his groove under Sutter. Oh well.

Keller was literally the pick after Tkachuk and Kyrou and Thompson were in the same draft as well. Thompson is older than Chucky by a couple of months and Keller/Kyrou are just a few months younger.

Hathaway wanted to play in the east...Flames almost always have to pay more, just accept it

If you need to win a playoff game, are you picking 25 year old Tkachuk over 35 year old Crosby?

Tkachuk has not shown up for the Flames in the playoffs and that is simply a fact.

Yeah, in a redraft of everyone where teams are building out a team for the foreseeable future, of course a 25 year old goes ahead of a 35 year old. They’d have to be significantly worse than the 35 year old not to.

But in a world where teams are building for one year, one run, and the slate is wiped clean next year? Not sure Tkachuk goes top 10. Maybe top 10 forwards, but top 10 overall is hard to buy.

Jarnkrok is better than he showed here.

But I think you’re missing my point. It’s not that I miss any of these guys specifically, it’s getting value from bottom of the roster players.

Jarnkrok is making $2.1 and has 15 goals. He is playing really tough minutes, with 57% D zone starts. He is their Coleman at less than half the price.

Wasn't Hathaway a UFA? He chose where to sign.
