Leafs 2 Flames 1
Leafs 2 Flames 1
- Markstrom with one of his better starts of the season
- Flames give up lead in third with terrible coverage
- Leafs shut them down from there
- Trade deadline tomorrow

Thanks for all your write ups this season, Bingo. I truly appreciate your takes on the games.
Not sure there's much else to talk about until next season starts to take shape.

My guess is Hamm is in Mount Royal.

Couldn't agree more.

When it comes to selling, to me it make sense; why not get a jump on a year from now’s busy summer. At the same time I also get the idea of wanting to win in the window they’re in, and thinking they’re unlikely to find similar players this summer.

Markstrom was solid tonight - of course, just when it's too late

Markstrom has put together 5 solid periods in a row.
Flames started strong, but got weaker as the game went on. By the third, their positioning, gaps and coverage were atrocious.
Power play was a momentum killer again. They need a guy who can make entries and another talent on the half-wall.

Considering we just spent $25M on Huberdeau, Weegar and Kadri, you would think we would have that.

IMO, the Leafs should lose the special teams battle because they gave up a shortie.

Frustrating season continues.
If Markstrom plays like that in just half the games he's played this season the Flames would be in 1st place. But of course he does it against a really good team and the Flames lose another one goal game.
24 one goal losses so far this season? With some of the worst goaltending in the league and a snake bitten offense that controls the play way more often than not but just can't finish.

The make the playoffs, miss the playoffs curse is real. Makes no sense how a team could fluctuate annually as wildly as the Flames but it can't be ignored that for whatever reason every 2nd season is a stinker. It makes maybe a bit more sense this season because of the roster changes but all the missed open nets, goalposts, goaltenders going from top of league to worst in the league. It's like some voodoo curse.

At least the bubble messed up the pattern.
2015 IN
2016 OUT
2017 IN
2018 OUT
2019 IN
2020 OUT but IN!
2021 OUT
2022 IN
Coming into this season only 9 teams had made the playoffs more often than the Flames from 2015-2022.

Almost every second season. They broke the curse in 2020.

If I was TO I'd be very concerned about how bad O'Reilly looks.

I'm thinking of the Jack Adams curse. Hartley wins and next season, out of the playoffs. Then Bill Peters and maybe Darryl Sutter.
