On the plus side this is going to shoot McDavid’s next deal into the stratosphere. Draisaitl too.

He's going to get $16mil/year isn't he?

I like the contract but I do wonder how he will produce once Marchand and Bergeron retire. That line is just magic.

He’s actually playing on their 2nd line with Zacha and Krejci this year

Feels weird to call am 11.25 mil AAV contract a steal, but it’s true. Pastrnak is probably a top 3 winger in the NHL.
Creates offense off the rush, off the cycle, and on the powerplay. Super well rounded. With the cap continuing to rise this will be more than worth it. Great value.

It’s a decent contract considering he’s 26 (which seems impossible).

McD, Matthews, MacKinnon yes, because they are all top centers in the league right now. Makar maybe but only because he is younger. In no universe you take any of Panarin Drai, Hedman or Vasil over Pasta. Panarin is 31, Drai plays powerplays with McD all the time. Imagine him on a team like Buffalo or Vancouver. Hedman is 32 and is approaching the end of his peak, while Pasta might not have reached it yet. Vasilevskiy is just a goalie. Consistent enough to win a cup on a good team, but I would argue there are
others equally as good aroud the league.

It will be super interesting to see how McDavid's next contract shakes out. I honestly believe 31 teams will give him 7 x $16M, and Oilers will give him 8 x $16 to entice him to stay. It'll be completely up to him on where he wants to play.

if Boston needs salary cap relief at some point, we can trade our 10.5 million dollar man straight up.

No one has come close to Vasilevskiy in terms of consistency and success. Go look at Panarin's numbers on weaker teams compared to Pasternak playing with Bergeron and Marchand. And you left off Kucherov who probably is the best winger in the game. Draisaitl does play with McDavid on power plays. Pasternak plays every shift on a perfect line. I'd put Pasternak, Marner, Kaprizov and Rantanen in a pretty tight grouping. Tkachuk may be hanging around as well. I'm shocked at his production.
Also, if you value centres highly, you have to look at Thompson now, as well as Hughes, who's found his game.

He has mostly played away from them this year with Krejci/Zacha.

Surprisingly, yeah. Though he has 29 PPP this year (out of his 80 total) and that's all with the Bergeron/Marchand combo.

Likely elsewhere too, reverting the Oilers back to complete doormat status once again.

Good list but I would debate Panarin, and I like him lots.

If I recall correctly (I could be wrong, was a while ago), he was actually one of the last big name RFAs to sign that season. I remember commenting that next time some agent points to an overpaid player as the "bar" as to why their client should get overpaid, every GM in the league should have a photo of Pasternak in their desk and point to it as the guy who reset the bar.
Still flabbergasted he is only 26.
