Definitely feels like a quanity over quality trade. There's some good pieces in there but no top pieces.

Surprised NJ didn't have to include Jack Hughes in the deal

100% joking of course

I could maybe see Luke Hughes but Jack is already a lot better than Meier

It's like the original Karlsson trade but without Nortis or any hope of there ever being a Stutzle like pick to save the deal.

No. The condition is if they reach the Easter Conference Finals this season and Meier plays in at least 50 percent of the games, or if they reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024.

I think he has a plan. He's stocking the cupboards with whatever young assets he can get knowing that 1 out of every 3 will actually have an impact on the team. With enough quantity you will start to hit on some good players and create a new young core that will come up at around the same time, but you need a LOT of quantity to fill out a roster. Their own draft picks will serve as the cornerstone pieces since they're likely to pick top ten for the next few years.

It's not a bad strategy, but obviously lots of luck is needed to hit on some of those pieces acquired. Time will tell if it's a good plan or not.

Surprised they didn’t have to include Brodeur in the deal too!

I like mukmadullin. I think this is potentially 3 1sts. Alternately viewed as a protected 1st and b prospect + picks. Jersey will be a strong team, and if meier fits well with hughes look out.

So if i added correctly, the deal includes:

9 players

4 draft picks

and

50% retention on one contract.

Almost video game stuff.

Cool though.

Not much. If the Devils get Meier inked to an extension this is quite the fleecing.

Sharks have a decent shot at Bedard, with their current position and their close out schedule. They are tanking.

That 7th round pick tilts this in San Jose's favour.

I hope Mukunmhamdumulidin never plays in the NHL again and this is the last we have to say or type out that name!

Unless he wants to change his last name to Smith.

Meier was SJ's best forward. Devils win the trade IMO. Meier is a RFA and I'm surprised it wasn't more. I live in San Jose and the fans have tuned out.

The conditions on the draft picks are as follows:

San Jose Receives New Jersey's 2023 First-Round Pick: If the pick is a top-two selection, New Jersey will instead transfer their own 2024 first-round pick.

San Jose Receives Conditional 2024 Second-Round Pick: Should New Jersey reach the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals (and Meier plays in at least 50% of Meier's Club's Playoff games in 2023) or the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals, New Jersey will transfer its own first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft to San Jose (top 10 protected), instead of its own second-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft. If New Jersey's first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft is a top 10 selection, New Jersey will have the option to instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft to San Jose. Should New Jersey transfer its first-round pick in 2024 NHL Draft per the original condition (top-two above in Condition A), New Jersey will instead transfer its own first-round pick in 2025 NHL Draft should they reach the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals.
This is kind of funny because I can't think of a scenario where the Devils would make the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals but their own first-round pick is a top-10 selection. I get if they make it in 2023 then fall off the following year, but it's just worded in a bit of a funny way.

So the scenario is they make the eastern conference this year but next year have a top 10 pick. Then it bumps to 2025
