Has a 7th round pick goalie made the NHL ever before he was 22 years old?

Let Wolf cook in the minors for another year at least. If there is an injury he will get his chance

Pekka Rinne was a 8th round pick and played 2 games for Nashville as a 23 year old.

Need to start getting him to 10-20 games so when he comes he gets promoted when you need him he's ok.

Not wait until you're desperate and then panic promote

Seems about right. It would be all but idiotic to thrust him into action right now unless someone gets hurt. The scrap heap is a large one that has been a result of rushing goalies into action.

I think Wolf has a good chance of being an NHL-level goaltender. I've watched a few Wranglers games this year closely and I don't think he's there yet (especially positionally on pro level shooters).

If he comes up now, he's going to get annihilated with his short side coverage in tight. His puckhandling decision making ability is also not consistent (a necessity in today's game).

Before everyone jumps to Wolf's defence, I want to say that it's ok. He's 22.

Juuse Saros had parts of three AHL seasons and was only handed the keys as a full time starter two seasons ago (last season being the first season he played full time/season minutes).

It takes time for goalies.

Tremendous company. Personally, having watched and tracked all three closely in the AHL, I'd have Wolf first — what he's done is truly remarkable.
Yes, but few successful comparable currently in the NHL with his size.

I doubt many GM’s share your view.

Although even ranking third is spectacular.

Scratching is sitting a guy for a game. So like I said you are always scratching a goalie. Or are you having two guys on the bench?

I think it’s best he stays with the Wranglers with how well they’re doing.

It absolutely does take time for goalies but I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that Wolf isn't there yet against pro-level shooters when he's been better than everyone else at his position in the entire AHL since he entered the league. There really hasn't been any adjustment period at all.

Tremendous indeed. Those two are broadly considered to be the best goalie prospects to come along in the last decade. And teams spent 1sts on them to get them. Just a tremendous draft pick.

I'd give him a game just to light a fire under the other two. And to send a message to Wolf that his stellar play isn't going unnoticed.

But selfishly, I find the Wranglers significantly more entertaining to watch than the Flames this season (and have watched them much more frequently as a result), so I would prefer to see Wolf stay down there and win a championship.
He can win a championship after the Flames season is done.

Full stop. If Wolf was 2" taller and 25 pounds heavier his numbers would've had him drafted in round 1/2. It's not like he came out of nowhere; been absolutely elite at every level. Posts questioning if a 7th round pick has made it at 22 are waaaaaaay overvalueing draft position.

IIRC Wolfy has never had a loosing season, his numbers are insane. Watching him play, he almost always is the difference maker. Beast goalie prospect in the league.

The only ones that are either short like him or within an inch of his height are guys like Saros, Shesterkin, Georgiev.

Wolf has played 99 AHL games. Lol @ the idea of rushing him.

I was being sarcastic. The idea that a small goalie cannot be elite is ludicrous. In fact, if you actually make the NHL as a small goalie you are likely going to be very good because of the bias towards big goalies.

I know, I was adding to it. Totally agree.

Saying that there are few successful comparables when there are Stanley Cups among the comparables is a terrible take lol.
