I think it's definitely time to worry about Markstrom. Like, for the human being not the goalie that plays for my club. Something is wrong there psychologically. Hate to see it.

Like, you want to let the man down easy
And if we end up moving on after this year you hope he bounces back and does great wherever he lands
I hate hearing a guy say he sucks at his profession
I support him as a person speaking of another person
But it's a tough business and this is a western Canadian market. It's pretty cutthroat .. and you have a GM and coach trying to help their team have success and keep their jobs
We cant afford those numbers from our number #1 if we hope to have a shot at playoffs .. need to switch it up before it's too late

I don't know what his problem is, but get him the hell away from the team. Tell him to take the rest of the year off, go on a sabatical, go find yourself but for the love of all that is holy quit letting him choke the Flames season away!! Or let him keep playing, sell sell sell like crazy at the deadline and hope and pray we fall far enough to give ourselves a real chance at Bedard.

You have to play Vladar as starter and Markstrom as backup. You lose any trade, and he can play well enough to back up. And then if by dumb luck you get into the POs, he’s a guy that can come in with some renewed ability and win games if Vladar hits his own wall.
That’s potting a lot on a guy who’s never played much in the league though.

I would have to agree, give vladar the experience… give markstrom the break… yea it’s a lot to put on vladar, but it’s also a lot to force a guy who mentally isn’t confident in his game to play night in and night out!
Just my two cents tho

Need to stop hanging around, neither 10 up nor 10 down
Rise - or fall - but for the love of god, commit to one of them
9th would be a nightmare result. Ensures we stay in no man's land and don't get much if anything out of this season
We either need to get a playoff run out of this new group or a top 10 talent out of this draft for our pretty bare cupboards

I think Markkstrom needs some time in the minors to gain his confidence back. Waive him and bring up Wolfe. Play Vladar a lot to see if we can make the playoffs. If we can't, play Wolfe for some experience.

Markstrom has a full no-move clause.

If they succeed, then we see playoffs
If they can't handle the load then the Flames get better odds in the lottery
I'm fine with either. Just can't keep watching us ice a goalie who is struggling and unlikely to suddenly improve

I'm pretty sure he would approve the chance at a fresh start
Edit: oh, in regards to a demotion..

Do we still have that goalie coach everybody here hates? Can’t remember his name.
Markstrom is not only playing like ####, he’s playing different. Sitting in the net and reacting.
This is as much coaching as confidence.

You’re probably right about something going on in his head, but not nearly as dramatic as you’re making it out to be. I think he just lacks confidence. He doesn’t have the “it factor” that top tier goalies have, and I don’t think he ever will.

'Member that time ages ago when Markstrom was shortlisted for the Vezina?

Which would be more damning if there hadn't been a brigade of CP posters that mock detractors and defend Markstroms season at every turn, which in turn results in more posts against his performance this season.

A lot of those shutout were very much team shutouts
They really sheltered him in a lot of those games by playing virtually the whole things in the other end of the rink
He deserves credit, but he didn't steal those shutouts by any means
And they helped skew the stats to being what they were
It was a very dominant team 5 on 5 and much more defensively responsible than this one has been to this point
Full marks on the great performance against Dallas though.. no one can take that series away from him

A “brigade”? Have you seen a PGT thread? The “brigade” is probably outnumbered 100 to 1

Vladar has the same coach, I don't see him on his knees deep in the net.

You don’t understand. Disagreeing about this or that goal and what could have been done is defending Markstrom generally. Or pointing out a huge defensive lapse on a goal is taking 100% of the blame away from him.
I think there’s a difference between posters who comment on the game generally, good and bad, and those who pop up just to comment on one player. And so called “defenders” don’t do the latter, only certain critics. It doesn’t just happen with him. Happens with Huberdeau, Kadri, hell it happens with Sutter. Just different posters.
