I'm glad other people saw the same thing during the game. An elite offensive talent but found him slow and coasting most of the game. He will be getting an earful from his defense buddies in the big leagues from the lack of back checking.
See more of a Kovalev comparison. He's the best when he wants to be, but needs to want it.
But who knows hard to put a ton of weight on 1 game after he has played 3 in 4 nights

A wild scene.
Bedard put in as much effort on the defensive side of the puck that will fit in perfectly with the teams tanking for him

Yeah at one point he was cherry picking late in the game.

He wasn't doing that during the world juniors. He is far and away the best player in the WHL, his age is the only reason he's still playing in the league. Now I didn't watch a lot of Crosby or Mcdavid in juniors but it wouldn't surprise me if they also had levels of effort in juniors. The guy is still a kid, I wouldn't put too much into it. This isn't me guaranteeing him being the next generational talent but I wouldn't put too much stock into his drive after watching a junior game, he's that good.

Strange game last night, even after a bunch of replays, I couldn't see the tying goal go into the net.

Ya TSN did not have an angle showing the puck across the line.
I had the game on, watched most of it, can’t say I saw Bedard dominate the way I thought he would.

Getzlaf looked bored and coasted his last year with the Hitmen. Bedard will be fine.

We prefer Trevor Lewis type
Bedard doesn’t fit. He is just a fancier Matt Phillips

He sounds terrible, hopefully he'll drop down to where the Flames can draft him.

I mentioned this last year when he i went to watch him play. Absolute monster/elite of a shot. Edge work/skating excellent. But his attitude away from the puck is inconsistent. When he does show up defensively, he's very noticeable. But too many nights off when things aren't going his way. This year, he's put in more effort than last year fwiw. But i find he only elevates his game when he knows eyes are on him.
I also am neighbors with a kid (well... 19. he plays in the SJHL), who is close friends with a couple guys on the Pats. He said too often Bedard pouts when thing aren't going his way.
I think he'll turn it around when he gets to the show. But he'll really need to put that effort in consistently.

It goes to show how special of a player Crosby is. That guy is a stud on every inch of ice.

He's +30 on a team with a -14 goal differential, his defensive struggles might be overstated.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if he starts to slow down a bit here too. He's guaranteed to go number 1 overall in the draft. The Regina Pats aren't very good - unlike Crosby in his draft year he's unlikely to be playing in the memorial cup. I'm not sure I'd be playing all out and risking injury at this point either.
Honestly Regina should have traded him to Kamloops instead of holding out for 20 more games of him on home ice. Would have been better for the CHL as a whole to have Bedard playing in the Memorial Cup this year, and to see if that chemistry with Stankoven from the WJC would have continued.

You guys really are reading far too much into one game..
This kid is relied upon game in game out to carry what is quite frankly a downright bad Pats team. He is the main focus of the entire opposition every single night. He absolutely has to cheat at times to create offense - it's literally their only chance to win, and he can get away with it at that level.
Last night was certainly not one of his better performances and he still managed a goal, assist, shootout winner, a +2, and had 7 shots on net.
He's about as good of a junior aged player as you will ever see. Just enjoy it.

^ Did you actually watch the game?
Nobody disputes the talent, or that he will be drafted first, or that he will find success
It was pretty funny though. The dome sells out, kids with signs everywhere. Starry eyed, watching the next great …
Any coach telling kids how to play C will now have to undo what they learned from Bedard. The way he coasted and was last forward back, repeatedly, all night was almost comical.
He is of course literally *that* talented that he can basically do his own thing.
He also went down easily a couple of times, gave the look to the ref with palms up.
Anyway. Huge talent. People who were there saw the effort.
He’s a kid, he will mature.

In fact I did. Comparing him to Kovalev and stating that he "doesn't want it" after one game is laughable.

I've watched probably 75% of the games he's played w the Pats, as I live here, since he came into the organization. All my previous points stand. He is an insanely elite talent, and when on, especially offensively, he is night and day. Yes, opposition defence centers around him. But far too often he seems to want to let the play come to him when he doesn't have the puck, not go in and get the puck himself.
He has picked it up this year for sure, as last year, he didn't meet the eye test for me. This year, the majority of games before the Christmas break, he was hot and cold in his effort without the puck. After, as the stats show, he has been on fire.
The Pats are not a good team this year. And yea, i kind of wish they traded him for a kings ransom. But there's no way they were going to, as hearing him go #1 overall from the Regina Pats, will go further for name recognition for the team.
