Also, Huberdeau needs to seriously stop committing turnovers. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt for too long, but the man needs to seriously start playing like someone who is months away from a 78% pay increase.
Guys who try things have turnovers from time to time. The player everyone was drooling over tonight was a turnover machine.

Huberdeau had a terrific game IMO.

Royal road one-timer from Laine 'can't go in'?

Okay.

Yeah, I thought Huberdeau was really good. Also, no idea why he didn't get an apple on Kadri's goal - he passed it to Zadorov, who sent it in to Kadri.

look where he shot it from and it wasn't even a good shot...Vladar's pad was in the freaking net inside the post or it doesn't go in

"Royal Road" even Kelly thought it was iffy and that is rare

Vladar had an .880 this game, he wasn't good

Huberdeau had two pretty similar passes on the last Flames powerplay. They just were not converted.

Just got home from the Dome. I tell ya, this was the most exciting game of the season to watch so far. Energy, drive, speed, passion, fight - they had it all. Some more finishing skill and luck wouldn’t hurt, sure, but if they can keep this level of energy up, this team is a playoff team.

That was a fun game. In no particular order:

1) Dube would easily get 50 goals if we wore Blasty full-time. I love it.

2) Johnny’s boos were awesome — unlike Tkachuk, I think he’ll get boo’ed every time he comes back to Calgary.

3) Great play by Rasmus to keep possession in OT, great awareness to beat Johnny to the puck.

4) Lucic really pounded that guy, and the Dome LOVED it. Good on the Columbus guy to stand in there.

5) For the love of everything holy, I hope Tanev is okay. He was missed, especially on the PK.

Huberdeau set guys up in better spots even...playmaker needs a finisher. Brad needs to get on it. The way the Flames dominate games those goals will make all the difference. These one goal games will be multi goal wins.

I was there too, and just got home (what a crap show the parking lot was - one exit wears closed). My wife had the time of her life. I wasn’t there to boo Gaudreau but she did LOL. And so did 85% or so of the building.

I think the TB game was the best game of the season for the Flames, but this maybe had more excitement because of the looseness.

Korpisalo was pretty darn good. Vladar not so much. I was right in line with the second goal and he was there. He just didn’t close off enough. And on the two on one he was guessing pass to Gaudreau and he was wrong.

I am not a complain about the ref guy but man was it bad tonight.

this is the hardest Columbus has played in a while...hopefully they have a similar effort on Wednesday against the Oilers

Something tells me they will get more than two penalties though

Love the energy Pelts has. I get Sutter wants to ease him in but eventually you have to try him with Kadri and Huberdeau.

And I'm sure McDiver will show Gaudreau how to hold the opposite stick and how to fall down.

Agreed. Lucic is just a placeholder on that line, either for Pelts or for deadline acquisition. I think Pelts gets a look on the Huberdeau line as early as the Chicago game.

Bang on. We were sitting behind the net. The second goal was totally on Vladar. And refs were not liking the Flames much tonight. I always cringe at “ref you suck” chants. They don’t make those refs liking us any better. They are only human.

But still, what a great game night. Johnny was visibly shaken, eh.

Its not far off from the Ovechkin spot - goal scorers can score from there.

It's not weak ... but it's one he could save. Similar to how a lot of Markstrom's have been this year, and overall wasn't Vladar's best night. Of all 3 the third is the one he might want most, even though it's off the post you never want to be best short side there.

Markstrom's lateral movement has been so poor at times this season that honestly I bet he might have made that Laine shot look unstoppable because he might not have gotten across to even get a piece of it.

IDK what to say...it was a terrible angle and a terrible goal, that is not the Ovechkin spot and he didn't even get a good shot away.

His pad was in the net and that is why it went in...people here that were at the game and sitting in that end seem to agree

When Kelly says its a bad goal its probably not a good one

Bad angle, skate/pad inside the post

I don't disagree.

The flames need to keep playing Vladar for two reasons - (1) It keeps Markstrom rested for the playoffs (2) Vladar is giving the flames a better chance to win right now.

That said, Markstrom at his peak performance is substantially better than Vladar at his peak performance. So I expect the Flames to keep Markstrom in regular rotation (50% of starts) until he finds his way. Because the Flames are likely to have substantially more success in the playoffs if they're riding a Markstrom who has rediscovered his game.
