Put huberdeau with Lewis and Dueher and see if he can do better than ruzicka

I'd be interested to see these lines if we're hell-bent on keeping Lucic on the 2nd.

Ruzicka - Lindholm - Toffoli
Lucic - Kadri - Huberdeau
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Dube - Duehr/Lewis

It's tough cause I'm not sure Ruzicka should be up there, but he's produced and honestly Lewis is a great 4th line option but Duehr has been playing well.

This way however, you get some skill around Pelletier and if our 4th line was a scoring threat? That would be great.

What type of details are missing from his game that Lucic brings?

The difference is Lucic is getting his points off the guys that make 17M combined

Even a pylon should get some points off that

The “details” Darryl likes:

- old
- from western Canada (unless goalie)
- big

Anything that actually occurs during an NHL game seems pretty irrelevant at this point

Let's not be happy Pelletier is coming in! It has only been a point of consternation for over a week about how he isn't getting in. Now he is but hey anger is way funner. And let's take over threads griping about the Keenan years. Great way to spend a Friday.

Adam Ruzicka had 7 points in 7 games prior to Sutter inexplicably moving him down the lineup.

This kid still leads the team in points/60 at even strength despite riding the 4th line for 48.5% of his season. The fact that he is the one coming out of the lineup is ridiculous.

He’s getting the Phillips treatment

Cup of coffee in a position nearly impossible to succeed in so the dinosaur can refuse to play him

Also his cup of coffee is coming at the expense of another young player who was trending towards a 70 POINT SEASON when he was getting top 6 opportunity

But by all means rejoice it will be cool to see Pelletier play for the Flames and if he pulls it off and earns a spot it’ll be a welcome miracle.

Well now it's up to Pelletier to prove he belongs beyond any doubt. Hope he does.

Well - that's a borderline impossible task to accomplish unless Darryl takes an extreme liking to the kid.

Clearly in Pelletier's best interest to show up for the game tomorrow on a horse.

Mangiapane (and most others) started on the 4th line and worked their way up the lineup.

Pelletier looks to be getting his chance, as everyone has been asking for. How about we see how he does with that chance before we complain that he isn't being gifted a top 6 role right off the bat?

I loathe this entire idea of “gifting a top 6 role”.

You want a talented player to develop? You play them with other talented players.

I’m not going overreact on where Pelts starts tomorrow, but the entire notion that it’s a bad thing to “gift” young talented players a position to play with other talented players is moronic and bad for player development.

Especially when the coach is gifting a top 6 role to Lucic.

Sutter has even said that it's about role previously. He has said stuff like why Dueher got in was because Ritchie was out - so that's the type of player he wanted in - a heavy 4th liner. So why does Pelts now go in on the 4th, and not the 2nd? There's some inconsistencies there. Hopefully it sorts itself out.

Mangiapane did that with Ryan and Hathaway. Maybe Pelletier-Lewis-Phillips? I’d be excited.

And that fourth line back there was centered by a mini Backlund type in Ryan. Now if they do keep Ruzicka as the fourth line center and play him with Pelletier that could be good. But if they make it a Lucic/Lewis/X fourth line than not so much.

Not sure how you accomplish that with checkers. At least with Ryan he had offense to provide.

Its a start, but if Sutter plays the 4th line 4th line minutes you know he is not getting a proper look. When the 4th line is filled with Sutter pets they get 10-12 minutes not 6-7 like they should.

I'd rather Pelletier starts on the 4th in his first NHL game instead of playing top 6 minutes against a team like the Lightning. That would not be giving him a chance to succeed. Play well on the 4th against the lighting and maybe he moves up to the top 6th against a team that isn't as good.

Rather telling in my view.
The Flames third line is $4.6M more expensive than their first line and 2.15M cheaper than their second line. The top 9 is really spread out somewhat evenly cap wise.

First line is $11.4M
Second line is $18.15M
Third line is $16M
