Exactly what I was thinking. That's a good goal. Hit Saros stick before it went in.

What? So it’s only disallowed if the goalie doesn’t get a piece of it? Why? You can’t score a goal by a kicking motion, that’s the rule.

It wasn't like it was going wide and Saros knocked it in. The goalie has to have the chance to make the save, even if he barely gets a piece of it. That was unfortunately the correct call.

yeah went off saros's paddle

Nhl effs up yet again, unless the goalie touching it last doesn't matter in the rulebook somewhere

Rule 49.2 of the NHL rulebook explains it a little bit further: “A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net with his skate/foot,” the rule reads. “A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.”

Leafs had a goal disallowed that was kicked from the red line to the top of the crease and bounced off an opposing player into the net. Kick was not *into* the net but was still called a kick.

This is similar, rule seems to be if the would be goal scorer kicks it...somewhere...before it enters the net even off a diff player.

Which begs the question, how many pinballs post kick does the kick no longer count as the kick that caused the goal. I hope this happens in a game 7 personally.

Because then it could count if it was a full on kick but went five hole. Or ticked off a glove. It was going in anyway.

Now, I think that kind of goal should count anyway and they should change the rule to allow kicks as long as they aren’t dangerous.

That's what happened. Toffoli kicked the puck and it hit Sarros' stick and went in. Good goal.

It makes sense. If that wasn't the case, you would have players with blades on their feet kicking away at loose pucks.
