Hellebuyck was bad last season and part of the reason the Jets missed the playoffs kind of similar to Markstrom doing his best to derail the Flames playoff plans this season. This season he's a big reason the Jets are going to likely have home dates in the playoffs. I won't be surprised if Markstrom is a lot better next season as that's the way it is for goaltenders sometimes.

First of all, I agree with you, and with all of that.
But the thing I keep coming back to is that the Flames have not had a goalie that improved while on the team. A good year, followed by a weaker year, and then the team moves on.
If we had some goalies that actually improved and progressed, while here, I would accept the above arguments. But there has been zero success on the goalie front, since Kipper.
None.

Oh I agree. I never understood why Sigalet got the rope he did based on the results of the position where nearly every goaltender the Flames acquired got worse under his watch. I'm just not sure with Markstrom if we can blame Labarbera given Markstrom's somewhat inconsistent history. Vladar has been decent but nothing great and there's no doubt in my mind that other organizations do a much better job as coaching up the position.

Gonna throw this out there, and if y'all don't like it throw it on back.
Change the thread title, to reflect panic.

I think it is fair at this point to say that those who were concerned in wake of the disasterous playoff performance were absolutely right to be. Markstrom looks mentally broken, unable to consistently play at NHL level. No indication at all that he will be able to rectify this. Team gets momentum crushed frequently by sloppy goals while he plays.

Markstrom is the new Turek. Unfortunately Sutter can't convince him to take this money over a longer timeframe and never pay him another cent.

Unfortunately it appears that we have missed the opportune moment to 'Panic about Markstrom.'
Prior it was presumed to have been 'Too Early.'
Well guess what....now its too late.

It's never too early to panic, nor is it too late. We always panic exactly when we mean to, unless it's about Jacob Markstrom.

I’m wondering about Markstrom’s workload. I’m sure that there’s an optimal number of games to play.
I get “playing through it” but at what point does the player or coach decide that we are bleeding points and we just need a reset.
In all walks of life, you don’t constantly keep putting your best people out to prove a point.
I hope that he gets his mojo back because the confidence that transfers to the team enables more risk taking and that leads to more goals.

I think some posters genuinely want Markstom to do bad so they can say I told you so

Man I would love nothing more than Marky to turn it around, prove the doubters wrong and lead us to playoff success.
Why would anyone want anything different?

who knows, odd way to be a fan
I was thrilled when I said Kylington would never be a full time NHLer and then he kicked down the door last season
Should I go bump an old thread and now that he isn't playing in the NHL!

Because there's certain players people highly dislike and Markstrom is one for some on here. Even last year some resorted to criticizing saves because he wasn't letting in enough goals.
They want the Flames to win, they would just rather it be with Vladar(or Wolf) so they don't have to admit they let their emotions get the better of them.

I see this kind of post but don’t see the posters to which you are referring
I really don’t see anyone wanting Marky to do poorly
Then again I don’t usually venture in to game threads

I mean we had a tread bumped from last March earlier tonight for someone to say I toada so, I would rather not bump said thread
Cam ####ing Talbot might be here if he didn't blow an elimination game were the Flames allowed 7 goals on 7 scoring chances

Cut back his workload. He was playing better with a reduced workload. This isn’t rocket science.

1000% agreed
when they played vladar for a couple and JM came back he played well
why not continue what you were doing there to a lesser extent
even pre-flames, he was alway best when rested
I'd have splits down to 60-40 for markstrom
increasing his starts to "get him in a groove" or whatever has obviously backfired
he might be able to turn in a good 60 minutes without a stretch of rapid fire gaffes if he wasn't starting 80% of the games
honestly does Sutter try to take lessons and adjust from what hasn't worked?

Kylington is currently the opposite of a full time NHLer... Because reasons.
