I agree. I don’t think it is a coincidence the team fell apart after that second goal.

This isn't an easy team to get excited for right now. We don't score easily, and we blow tons of leads because it feels like most mistakes end up in our net.

Points in 15/19 is solid, but the club's repetitive, predictable issues sure do make it hard to get excited about their chances of making any noise come April.
We are YEARS away from seeing an appreciably different Flames team. Get used to...whatever this is.

This is not a case of a good team playing beneath its potential.

yes we know he makes great saves and looks like a top tier goalie 75% of the time

but 25% of the time he looks like an EBUG

and that has been consistent for 30+ games

I've been saying for awhile now that the team seems to play better in front of Vladar.

While I think this loss is on Markstrom, I will say that the Flames looked completely content with taking the game to OT with 10 minutes left in the 3rd. No pushing the play at all.
I get that you don't want to push too hard, take unnecessary risks and give up the lead, but there was no energy or pace to their play at all.

Remember when Lindholm was a 40 goal scorer and finished second in Selke voting?

Its laughable watching every other team in the league play 3 on 3 and then watching the Flames. Forget practicing, they should be forced to watch hours of OT from teams across the league, then again I don't think that would make a difference. The continued failure highlights the biggest issue with this team in my opinion, speed.

Like clockwork

They should just give the flames 1 point in the rest of the games

It’s almost statistically impossible at this point.

This season is ridiculously similar to the 2016/2017 Glen Gulutzan Flames.

Show volume.
Bad, momentum crushing goaltending.

Even if we do make the playoffs, Markstrom will see us swept in four.

It also makes complete sense that we suck in OT. The team mantra is shot volume, not shot quality. 3 on 3 is all about shot quality.

Can you even put guys down for a conditioning stint? 10 games with the Wranglers and let him fight his way back.

At this point I’m most upset with coaching and management. It’s frustrating to watch these guys call the shots when it’s clear to see that Markstrom is having an off year. I get the fact that they want to show commitment to their number one goalie and give him the opportunity to play through his issues, but enough is enough already. These decisions are costing us valuable points in the standings and why not ride Vladar for awhile since he’s had some decent streaks.

On top of that there was hesitation to call up Phillips and give him a shot even though he was lighting up the AHL. We all know what happened when he finally got a chance and was basically given limited minutes and quite frankly zero opportunity.

It angers me that everyone can see what the issues are yet they refuse to do any course correction. It’s almost comical at this point to see how stubborn this group of decision makers have become. They operate under the illusion that they are the smartest guys in the room. I’m a big Sutter fan but his refusal to make adjustments is costing this team points and potentially a playofff spot.

The leaders of this team need to be better and that extends past the players. Right now this team is failing in many areas on and off the ice.

Oddly, part-way through the second period I was thinking the Flames were playing a pretty good TEAM game. Looked tight and connected, decent passing, protection of the puck, covering for each other....then came the intermission and went to do the dishes. Came back up and it was all over baby blue..

Teams don't win consistently with a starter at .894, it's that simple. Goals 2 and 3 tonight were pathetic and are inexcusable from Markstrom. He has not been good enough all season, and doesn't deserve to be starting.

No team looks good in front of 0.894 goaltending, they just don't.

He looked like crap all night, so it's not surprising he shot the bed.

See post 1! I believe (could be wrong) that it is 18 - and yes, Flames are currently on pace to tie that!

$24.3M in cap space tied up in Huberdeau, Markstrom, and Mangiapane going forward.

Things could still work out, but man things are looking precarious at the moment...
