That's exactly what I see- a budding superstar, but not in the same stratosphere as Crosby or McDavid. I wouldn't dare say that out in public in Canada though.

I think we have a different understanding of generational talent, what would you or what is defined as generational?

It's fine to have that opinion but when he is breaking those players records don't be surprised that people disagree

I have never seen a 17 year old dominate like this

Bedard will get drafted by the Coyotes, and then Matthews will go sign there and they will win a cup in that fancy pants new stadium they’re building.

I'm with others, the kid will be a superstar in the NHL, but at his size I'll have to see how he handles the NHL to see if he can realize generational status. At the VERY worst the team that drafts him is getting one of the better players in the last decade.

Jagr had 18 points in 7 games. Bedard now has 21 in 5, and he's guaranteed 2 more games.

21 points puts him into a tie with Robert Reichel for 4th on the all-time single tournament list. Peter Forsberg holds the record with 31 in 7 games. That's probably not catchable, but second place is 24 points, which could be passed.

But generational talent, totally not sure because that implies McDavid/Crosby. The scoring record for Team Canada, while it tells one story, there's another angle and that's the competition it was against. Complete blowout games notching a bunch of those. His skill is impressive - just want to see how it translates to the NHL as we've heard the hyping of prospects time after time at this tournament.
I definitely didn’t say it would or wouldn’t translate. You said based off skill. So, I was pointing out how I see them at the same respective ages skill wise. The jury is still out on how it will all translate, obviously.

He's listed as 5'10 and 185 pounds. He could easily (but not definitely) grow an inch and gain 10-15 pounds. He doesn't turn 18 until July. I'm guessing by age 20 he won't be considered small.

We’ll the NHL has been around for 100 years . If you are one of the 50 best players you effectively are one of two of the best players for a decade. To me that is close to generational. Matthew’s for example could end with 650 goals . Kane with 1400 +points (he’s only 250 pts behind Crosby for his career and has 3 cups) leaving him as a top 20 point getting in NHL history mostly playing during the dead puck era - he’s currently 48th all time in points and has many seasons left in him

Is Jagr generational ? Forsberg ? Messier ? Ovechkin? Lidstrum

I can buy the argument that the answer is No , and we are reserving generational for a top 10 player of all time. But if you draft a player who will go down as first ballot unanimous HoFer that’s generational to me

He is lighting up the WHL which is typically a harder league do score in.

His shot is already elite at the NHL level.

I don't think size will matter he's a quick player with elite vision as well.

Not to mention he is a pretty physical kid. i've seen him layout guys bigger than him several times. He could really be the whole package and if he is I just hope he stays out of the Pacific so I can cheer for him.

185 lbs at 5'10" at 17 years old tends to suggest his NHL weight will be about 195 - so a fairly solid size for physical play. I think speed is the bigger question mark for him as opposed to size.

With his shot though, no reason he shouldn't score a ton in the NHL.

Are people suggesting he is slow? He looks like the fastest player on the ice.

I certainly don't mean to suggest that he's slow - I don't think it's the case. I just think the step to NHL speed is going to prove more challenging for him than the step to NHL size - particularly when he's added a bit of weight to his frame, which he inevitably will.

He's an excellent skater, but he's nowhere near the level of a McD/ MacKinnon. He plays with phenomenal pace, and can change speed/direction on a dime. Elite stickhandler, with uncanny deception ability. He reminds me of Johnny Hockey in that regard-not elite in a straight line, but will make you look silly by going around or past you.

actually now that I think of it he probably won't put up McDavid points because he will likely be on an actual team in his prime that will expect him to play D, not play 28 mins a night in october, and not play entire powerplays.

I was thinking a more skilled and faster Johnny. He dodges checks easily. He seems to have a motor that is non stop.

Bedard looked determined to end the game in OT.

He's going to be a superstar but probably not McDavid numbers.

McDavid cheats the game so he can rack up points.

That is the difference, Bedard thinks win first and reflects on the points after. At least right now he is saying the right thing.
