But man o man. Whatever GM gets to pick Bedard is going to have a perminant hard on.
Probably their fanbase too.

Just based on skill I don't see him as good as McDavid, but rather a poor mans Crosby. He'll be good but how good who knows. McDavid and MacKinnon are another level though.

It is impossible to say but he is playing better than McDavid was at 17

Well, he is not in NHL yet, he is representing Canada, so I won't get tired of hearing him everyday, all week until the tournament is over.

I don't care who you are. If you watch a shrimpy kid SMASH Eric Lindroses scoring record at the WJC, you're witnessing sheer greatness the likes we haven't seen since Lindros.

I don't think it's too far fetched to say Lindroses record was once thought of as untouchable. That to me speaks loudly to what Bedard is and is going to be

The only area McDavid was better than Bedard at 17, was his skating. Vision, puck handling, passing, shooting and hockey IQ all favor Bedard imo.

So did I hear correctly that he has most points as a 17 year old, passing Jagr?

I think it's more of what translates to the NHL game. McDavid's skating and stickhandling combination is deadly. Can a pretty small guy like Bedard be that dominant with above average skating? It's hard to see when guys much bigger lean on him. Even if he ends up being a better Patrick Kane or Austin Matthews that's great. But generational talent, totally not sure because that implies McDavid/Crosby. The scoring record for Team Canada, while it tells one story, there's another angle and that's the competition it was against. Complete blowout games notching a bunch of those. His skill is impressive - just want to see how it translates to the NHL as we've heard the hyping of prospects time after time at this tournament.

My friend's and I were actually chatting during the game, wondering on average, how many kids who make the World Juniors team for Team Canada go on to play at least 1 NHL game. Couldn't find any stat for this but I'm guessing 25% of the roster (5 of the 20 players)?

I think by the end of their careers it will be easy to argue Kane and Matthews were generational talents . Both could easily go down as top 50 players all time (if not higher)
I see a Kane type player going forward , and maybe Kane+

1 game would be way higher than that
91% based on the link below

This study should include the data you’re looking for.

If you’re only a top 50 player then you’re not a generational talent.
