Emilio Petttersen quietly has 12 points in his last 8 games and is PPG on the season. He has looked quite good from what I have seen this season, great speed and edges and some nifty goals with a good shot. He is not tiny either, 5'10 180 lbs so he is Mangiapane sized.
Do not think many people had him as a potential call up but I would not be surprised if he gets recalled first, even over Pelletier

I expected them to be a top AHL team before the season started, then the 2-5-0 start threw me.
Nice to see them dominating ever since.
The AHL coach is going to get poached if he keeps having success like he is.
There was a lot of turnover of impact players last season. I thought they’d take a bit of a step back. They Lost 5 of their top 7 scorers (Philp, Kirkland, Gawdin, Froese, and Mackey) as well as their top defensive pairing (Mackey and Valimaki).
Those first few games were rough. Not bad bounces but being heavily outplayed by Coachella (whose tied with Calgary at the top). Was worried we were in for a long season.
Last season they had 1 point per game player…this season they have close to 5 (Ben Jones on the cusp…who seems like the most “Darryl player” of the lot)
A long playoff run would do wonders for attendance next season.

-Phillips moves back up to 4th in scoring (although his 1.55 pts/gp put him in 2nd), with 22gp/18g/16a/34pts,+9, 6 PIM.
-Zary (28gp/10g/20a/30pts, even, 33 PIM) and Pelletier (28gp/12g/18a/30pts,+6, 22 PIM) are tied with 7 other players for 12th in scoring.
-Pettersen (23gp/8g/15a/23pts,+14, 12 PIM), and Jones (27gp/6g/17a/23pts,+8, 21 PIM) are tied with 5 other players for 49th in scoring. Pettersen leads the Wranglers in plus/minus, and is tied for 10th overall in the AHL. There appears to be a new hot prospect in town.
-Poirier is tied for 8th in D scoring, 1st for rookies, with 28gp/4g/17a/21pts,+3, 14 PIM.
-Wolf is 5th in GAA (2.24), 4th in SV% (.926), and 1st in minutes-played (1287:40).

In the few games that I have watched them play, the team plays quite well defensively. When the defence fails Dustin is back there doing his thing. Even top teams in the AHL seem to make more mistakes in their own zone coverage than the Wranglers. I am quite happy to see the turn around from the first 6 games or so. Well coached team. I do wonder about the relationship between Darryl and Mitch as Darryl has watched quite a bit of Wranglers games.
Glad to see the team doing well and having them in Calgary

Mitch Love has been announced as the Pacific All-Star coach. It’ll be interesting to see how many Wrangler players get the nod.
I think Wolf and Phillips would be a lock… but I assume they’d want representation from every team in the division…and with the pacific being the largest with 10 teams, I’d assume either Pelletier and/or Zary will be left off.

I think Pelletier goes as well. The All Star Classic is in Laval, Quebec. Just a hunch.

There's been some questionable coaching hires with the big club over the years, but we've been lucky as far as the last couple of coaches who have been responsible for ushering in our young talent in the AHL, namely Huska and now Love.
Went to a Heat game before Christmas. I enjoyed it almost as much as a Flames game. Parking was a breeze. Concourse was empty. Felt more relaxed and social. Even the game itself, it was nice to just enjoy a hockey game. I didn't feel the same fan anxiety as I do with the Flames.
It's encouraging to me that the top 7 scorers on the team are 24, 21, 20, 22, 23, 20 and 21. And add 21 year old Wolf, and it's not a terrible prospect cupboard.
A quick look around the Pacific AHL top scorers, and it's a lot more journeymen AHL types.
Oddly enough, the player who impressed me the most was Brett Sutter. Blocking shots, finishing checks. Hopefully that work ethic continues to be picked up by these younger players.
