Best thing I have ever done, to ensure I will never, ever have kids.

Same. Over a decade later, and still not a single regret at all.

The boys feel fine, but I definitely have a lot of soreness in my lower abdomen, so I’m taking it very slow. My 4 and 2 year old love to play wrestle, so I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on that.

A week since the snip and starting to feel back to normal. I was definitely more sore and for a longer period time than I initially expected, but given that I had some complications on the one side recovery went pretty well all considered. I’m able to do a few chores around the house today and feeling much less pain and discomfort today. Still not quite ready to toss the kids in and out of the car, so we’ll see how that goes this weekend. Also hoping to hit the ODR at some point this weekend if the weather stays nice!

It's been over 2 years since my snip, but I keep getting recurring dreams of it not "taking" and kid #3 is on the way. These seem to have supplanted the "stressing about a final exam I didn't study for" dreams that were a mainstay of my sleep for 15 years after graduating college

Is the Vasman still the CP top choice or are there others worth checking out? 2023 is the year I finally get this done.

I had two friends recommend Dr Crouse from intramed and one friend recommend Vasman. I went Vasman for two reasons; 1) I figured no scalpel technique was slightly better for recovery and 2) their location is more convenient for me.

If I were to do it again, I would have done a consult beforehand just to fully understand some of the issues scar tissue can present. It would not have impacted my decision at all, but would have helped set expectations for recovery.

Yah, detailed it a bit above, but I had an inguinal hernia as a baby and then was also a goalie, so likely got hit in the nuts a billion times doing that. My one side had some scar tissue and the vas was not easily separated and also was very thin. This caused some issues for the doctor and was far less pleasant than the first side.

I heard Dr Crouse is retiring soon (has retired?). I had a few friends rush to get their procedures done due to that.

It’s honestly kinda jarring you can be in and out in 15-20 minutes. I was done in 43 mins and that’s because I had to wait 30 mins before I was allowed to drive home. But that’s basically textbook in and out smooth procedure.

This is an interesting thread to read through as I've never had a thought at all of a vasectomy. With that said, my wife has always had an IUD, and both times it's been taken out she's gotten pregnant quickly. With the IUD in, we've never had so much as a scare over the years and I've hardly thought another kid is a possibilty until it's removed. Am I playing with fire here?

I guess that depends on how much fire you like to play with, because the methods aren't 100%. However, an IUD is pretty damn close. IIRC, when it was something my wife and I were looking into, the FR was around 0.5-1%. I imagine it's likely only gotten better. However, age was also a factor, adding to that.

So...highly unlikely, but a 'surprise child' is not wholly out of the picture.

As a comparison failure rate for vasectomies is around .1-.3%. So perhaps a 5-10x improvement over an iud.

I am far from an expert, but I think in general almost all birth control options for females have more risks than a vasectomy, which major drawback/feature is it’s permanence.

For us, I 100% know I do not want anymore children and my partner is in the same boat. So, me feeling like I got kicked in the junk for a week is pretty minor compared to any birth control options for her.

Yeah - I had no problems taking the kick to the junk for a week so we don’t have to worry about a surprise kid. It was a pretty easy decision and relatively smooth even though mine was slightly complicated.

She went through child birth, a vasectomy is a cake walk.

I went to Intramed based off a lot of recommendations here and had my procedure done by Dr. Crouse. Super quick procedure and I was out trying to do an easy run about 10 days after it was done.

Its hilarious when you are all prepped and laying there with everything out to the world all segmented away behind a tiny flap of paper material and just chilling waiting for the doctor, literally balls out.

For those of you who went with Intramed, did you get the premium package or just the regular option? Is there a big difference?
