I have to give you props for being steadfast over the years. It's one of the strangest things I have seen on the internet but you are what you are.

Arent the majority of cancelled inbounds coming out of the lower mainland/island because they are getting pounded with snow and cannot keep the tarmac plowed?

Anyone like that probably took steps to live down south as soon as they could afford it.
You must not know old people that lived in the Caribbean.

I heard a couple pretty loud pops while sleeping last night that I assume we're because of something shifting in the house structure because of the cold. It really is kind of worrying when you get into 3 or 4 days at -30. The keypad deadbolt on my garage entry door stops working around -25 because the metal pin inside seems to contract just enough that it has trouble engaging with the lock mechanism.

Last winter I bought a couple Weiser electronic deadbolts, they stopped working in -20 temps so I removed them. Button issues.

Anyone have a recommendation on what will work in these temps?

Add not sleeping well and boiling during the day inside to not golfing, running or doing much of anything and yeah I'll take 5 degrees over 35 for sure.
These conversations are always silly. People live all around the world with at daily temperatures of 30C with no issue as the body adapts. We only see it in Calgary for a matter of days in a year so it's uncomfortable for some because their bodies have not adapted to these temperatures or are slow to adapt. If the norm in Calgary was for daytime highs of 30C our bodies would adapt and we would go about our daily lives just fine and the majority of us would have AC accordingly like the rest of the industrialized world that lives in areas where temperatures are regularly north of 25C. The human body cannot adapt to -30 period. Not debatable. You can dress up but your body will never, ever adapt as you will die being overexposed to these cold temperatures. It's als extremely hard on vehicles, houses, roads, animals, pretty well everything including the environment because of all the natural gas used to heat houses to keep them at room temperature. There's a very good reason the majority of the world's population is concentrated near the equator.

If your body takes overly long to adapt to 30C then it's your problem only as the rest of the world much prefers it to cold weather. Any talk of this current weather being better than hot summer is purely silly talk.

Ya, use one like this:

https://www.schlage.com/en/home/prod...375CENFFF.html

They don't use power to move the deadbolt. You turn the knob after you put the code in. Ya, it's slightly less convenient and doesn't auto lock, but that's fine with me, because it works no matter the temp. I've got 2 like this, and one with the handle(no deadbolt though) which does auto lock as it doesn't have a tumbler.

It’s funny that people who like temperatures >+30 are so sensitive they get defensive about it even when it’s -30 lol.

Nothing about that post was remotely hyperbolic. I can show you a picture of the kid's fingers if you want.

There are some major issues with rebooking that are being dealt with right now. Some people won't be getting to their final destinations till Sunday is how much of a mess that is right now. I maybe should have clarified that not EVERYBODY won't make it for the holiday, but some won't.

Yes YVR shut down all operations, but between all the lower mainland/island and YEG which is also having a bad time, that represents about half of inbounds for us.

My daughter's stuck in Toronto as her 10 am flight was cancelled. They are saying the weather gets brutal on Thursday out there so hope she gets out tonight or tomorrow. I know 4 people that have had flights delayed/cancelled from all over in the last day.

And Westjet has the worst customer service ever. She's been on hold to try get on a different flight for 2.5 hours. Pay $800 and can't even get any help.

Acey, do you work for Westjet? If I rebook my kid on Air Canada what are the chances I get my money back from cancelled westjet flight? (I'm guessing slim and none)

Yikes, I'm looking at YVR on ADS-B Exchange right now and nothing is moving on the airport. An Air India flight landed a while ago, taxied to a spot on runway 13/31 and hasn't moved since.

I have Schlage ones like this and the ones on all the house doors work fine in any temp probably because the heat of the house keeps it warm enough. The one on my detached garage entry door fails around the temps we are seeing now. I only heat my garage to about 4 or 5 degrees. The pin in the lock doesn't fully engage the gear that is on the knob and it just spins freely. When you turn it slowly you can feel the pin rub against the gear in the knob but not enough to make it work. I've opened it up and adjusted the slider that rides on the spring but it still doesn't quite work.

I’d like to see some actual science backing up your claims about our bodies operating differently and adapting differently. It also fails to account for how a human body would adapt to climates with wildly varying temps.

My wealthy sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and their 3 kids will be spending the next few days in my bungalow with my family of 4 instead of Hawaii. Not quite the living they're accustomed to.

I am in YYC operations for the airport itself but not WestJet directly, however I do have a contact there that I can pass along her PNR to and she can maybe look into it though she's getting slammed at the moment. (Message me the PNR, don't post it in here)

And yeah if you just rebook with AC it's unlikely you'd ever see a dime.
