Nah it was MLS. This could never work in Europe cause the talent level is so much higher they'd chip the keeper every time, but it was fun in MLS.

Does anyone know why they made Messi wear a wizard's robe?

Brazil Italy in 1982 3-2 was up there but I think WC wise, Germany France in 1982 semis (4 goals in extra time) was maybe the greatest WC game to this point before today.

Would’ve been cruel to have France anywhere near it. Mbappe left alone on the 2nd goal for some reason, as well as the chance at the very end where Martinez had to go full stretch was terrible Argentine defending.

Messi’s last goal, another 6 inches or less and it would’ve been offside.

France have had the market on horseshoes since Henry and his handball goal to qualify over the Irish in 2009, and today, and this tournament, have also been extremely fortunate to advance as far as they have.

Mbappe is the real deal, no question. But the rest of the team skated by and BS about the flu etc is usual French lazy excuses.

Fantastic game, great World Cup. 2026 in North America should be interesting for all sorts of (different) reasons but it will be hard to come anywhere near such a neutral friendly final.

France-Brazil 1986 was also an incredible game even though it was only 1-1 in the Mexican heat. The French in general play a nice style so they'll always be involved in great games. Another great game in 1986 was Belgium-USSR. Belanov got a hat trick but USSR lost 4-3. I think it's the only other time someone got a hat trick in a world cup game and lost until today.

How was France lucky? The Kane miss was the only lucky thing I can think of, but even that only would have tied the game. They are a completely stacked team, and were also missing arguably their top two players other than Mbappe.

Yup France wasn't lucky they beat England fair and square. Kane had a terrible attempt and they lost. England fans just being babies.

I would posit that the only thing England had on them was squad depth.

Which didnt become a factor and Southgate failed to use.

France almost repeated as World Champs. They are a damned good team.

Yeah and missing Benzema and Kante. That’s a really good team and they showed some good backbone today to come back twice.

The NASL did it as well. With a shot clock. You can find old videos of guys bouncing the ball making the flick easier.

First of all, I like it. Once the keeper is allowed to come out you showcase some talent and grit.

Oh man...I dont know where you are, but I remember the early days of indoor Soccer in Calgary.

That was just RV carpet on top of plywood sprinkled with salt.

It was awful.

The only real change I'd make to penalties is to give the keeper more leeway on those 50 stutter step, hop, skip type penalties. Once the taker goes with that the goalie shouldn't be bound to the line. If it's a normal run up then fine.

For that similar feel, give yourself a nice sliding tackle on the Subway West field, for all to see your turf burn. I'm so over 5-aside.

I just think the odds have to be evened in some capacity in regards to penalties.

For starters I'd like it if they really got it down to: "Was a scoring opportunity denied?"

Not whether a shirt was grabbed, a toe was stepped on, the cheap stuff. Did the ball hit the arm? Did that stop the ball from going into the net?

Was it a real scoring opportunity that was illegally prevented?

Because whats the conversion percentage of a penalty? 85%+?

Does someone deserve an almost free goal because his toe got trodden on at the outer edge of the 18-yard box?

The punishment/reward doesnt fit the transgression.

Atco fields baby.

If you didn't leave at least a cubic foot of knee and shin skin there, you have no Calgary indoor soccer cred.

I've got a few cubic meters in addition to probably more than a few pints of blood.

Hell....I've probably got more than a few cubic feet of Atco fields ingrained my knees and shins let alone the other way around.

Amazing soccer match. Messi’s last gift to football, he’s done it all now. Mbappe is a force of nature. All Argentina until he took over
