And at this point, I wouldn’t even really call it being optimistic tbh. I’d call it being naive. And not pessimistic…observant. Realistic.

I already said you can do whatever you want and I’m going to do whatever I want, so why pretend I’m telling other fans how to act? Grow up.

I called out your ‘take’ as part of a larger cohort that constantly reminds the critics it’s not worth their time. It’s just endless and equally frustrating as it casts anyone who doesn’t sing the praises of the flames in a lesser light

I think he got his new deal before the season began but I could be wrong?
For me things took a turn after the Edmonton (surprise) game this year and he did a panic switch of the lines and almost what felt like a shift in systems. Nothing has been right since.
A poster here suggested that the Oiler series last playoffs broke Sutter, not so much Markstrom. To quote that meme, why not both?

I’ll never understand Canadian owners and their reluctance to commit to a full tear down.

I think the issue was that even without Gaudreau and Tkachuk it looked like a team that finished in the 20th range. Goaltending ####ting the bed has been a surprise that has really sunk their record. I don’t think their was anyway to outcompete the tanking teams this year.

You can call it whatever you want, the facts are the facts though. And if stress and negativity are bad for your health, I’m not going to waste them on hockey. But do you.
For the life of me I cannot understand why you would specifically ask for optimists to speak up and then when they do, start calling them naive. You’re just being an #######. Or, a “realistic” ####### if it makes you feel better.

Cool story. Considering my post contained none of that maybe you could find one of those endlessly generating posts you don’t like and use that a jumping off point instead. I made it pretty clear multiple times that people old do whatever they wanted and as long as everyone was enjoying the Flames in their own way that was cool. Nothing about some fans being in a “lesser light” or whatever.

Nah you don't get to call where the realistic line is.
Plus it's not about being observant, we call see the standings, the stats, the issues.
But person A) decides the season is lost based on what he's seeing and feels the need to tell everyone that and person B) is more patient thinking the components are there to have a season turn around and get it done.
Neither is wrong. Neither is naïve.
One is jumping to a pessimistic conclusion, the other an optimistic one. Both equally valid.

It's starting to look like the team would have been better off rebuilding but with this ownership group you just never know if that's even an option for a GM. I think right now the best option now is to try and get a little younger in the offseason by moving on from guys like Lucic, Ritchie, and Lewis and not replacing any through free agency. Simply force Daryl to pick their replacements from within the system. Pelletier has to be on the roster next season and maybe Zary as well. It's time to look from within the organization for solutions as free agency and trades have made the team more expensive, older, and worse.

It still makes no sense to me that Huberdeau was just offered the same contract they offered Gaudreau. Gaudreau has been the better player since he's been in the league. His contract would have taken him a younger age.
Team was afraid of another walk. IMO that's on Treliving.
The refusal to rebuild is on ownership.

LOL could you blame him given what just happened with his two best players? I'm just being fair as I wanted him to extend Huberdeau at the time. I think very few in the hockey world could have predicted that things would get off to such a slow start for him.

I am sticking to my thoughts of not panicking until we get to the second half of the season if this play continues. It is really frustrating so far but I am still hopeful they can turn it around and make a push in the second half. A lot more adversity this year compared to last

The Flames should definitely not be making any panic moves i.e., hockey trades to rearrange what we already have.
If the Flames are looking to make a move, it should be for futures

It was a phenomenal trade no matter how you slice it. He could have easily flipped both players for multiple 1st round picks.

then they should have done that, and imo, any half decent manager should have seen that as well

I'm glad you're in charge of my annual review.
This feels like the state of commodity markets is on me, and the Ukrainian invasion may somehow be my fault.

What if the half decent manager was told by his ownership that the plan was to compete and not move assets for picks?

???
Part of this team's job is to evaluate players and their projected performance in future seasons. All one needs to do is look at an age curve to see the Flames made a mistake.
Let's not mix words. The Flames have some of the worst pro scouts in the league. They are terrible at projecting the future.

I would tell my boss that's not the right direction for this team. If that costs me my job, so be it, but I'm not going to find another after signing Kadri to 7x7 and Huberdeau to 10.5x8.
