Now it's old school slow, non energetic, and stale.

I was thinking the Oilers would have to add in order to get them to take the cap hit without taking anything back.

It's not really sustainable per the fancy stata outside of petterson and hughes tho at 5v5
PP is a top 5 unit which is probably only reason why they stay out of bottom 5, especially if horvat, schein, Boeser, and potentially others get moved
Ducks, Hawks, coyotes, and BJs feel like bottom 4
But chance to get bottom 5 is there, and in the potential bedard zone of bottom 10 is almost certain

I just can't see it. His QO next summer is again, $3m. He has sunk value, and I cannot see the Oink retaining him.
Neat fact. His QO this past summer was $1.4m. Which is entirely reasonable. Holland's ingenuity, more than doubled that.

Agreed.
If I'm a GM who's interested in Puljujarvi, I wait for the Oilers to cut him loose as a cap casualty and then sign him at a much lower figure.
For this season, I'd consider him as a pure cap dump and look for Edmonton to throw in a pick.

There is no way Anaheim is giving a second for JP.
Edm - JP + 2023 2nd for Ana - 2023 4th
Is a more likely trade

If the Flames continue to lose, I hope they look to retool.
Can you imagine what they can get for Elias Lindholm on that contract? That trade alone can bring in a ransom. A team like Colorado would probably give up Newhook + 1st + more.
On top of that, trade Backlund, Toffoli, Coleman, and Hanifin.
Bring in young players and surround them around Huberdeau, Kadri, Tanev, and Andersson.

I dont get it. bring in late 1sts and be mediocre (still)? Not good enough to win, not bad enough to get a top pick. May as well just stay the course.

Yes, I would rather have Alex Newhook and 1st + more than Lindholm.
Newhook has potential to be a top line player and I would play him with Huberdeau.
I like Lindholm but he will be the next retirement contract this GM will sign. $8-9 MM for 8 years. No thanks.
I much prefer a rebuild but we all know that won't happen. So, this is why I am proposing a retool while keeping our newly overpaid contracts. Hopefully a shakeup with youth can bring more energy to this team.

If the rebuild was going to happen it would have started with the Tlachuk trade. Now that Huby, Kadri and Weegar are signed, the team isnt rebuilding. And Even if it did it would be cut short ala half rebuild.
I Just feel like as #### as this team has been, may as well just see where the season takes us.

We also don't have a choice, we're cap strapped

Hes talking about selling, what does that have to do with being cap strapped? If anything that helps.

Yeah but you said we're not rebuilding so we gotta see what happens this season. Highly doubt we're going to unload any higher priced contracts either.

Wonder if the long-rumoured interest in Josh Anderson goes anywhere. Would allow us to bump down Toffoli and inject more speed into that top line.

If we’re re-tooling, Lindholm is the last guy I would want to part with.

Taking a while to get to 5000
|
I mock this thread, a lot, for its awful awful trade ideas.
So its time for me to post one and take my share of the beating.
Problem child for problem child. Markstrom for Grubauer.
Grubauer has an extra year, comes in at $100k cheaper and is a year younger.
He's been, quite frankly, awful for the Kraken. But he wasn't always that way in Washington & Colorado. A return to form outside of Seattle isn't out of the question.
Markstrom gets the gift of not playing in a Canadian market anymore full time but staying out west. Statistically his best option.

I do wonder if this team can afford to give another player a huge money contract for a guy who will be in his 30’s for the bulk of the deal?
