I finally got a 4090 FE order through. I was in a panic though and couldn't use the $75 worth of gift cards I have so I'll have to use that for another part.
It's dumb Best Buy won't let you add gift cards after you place an order or even stack gift card balance like Amazon.

Yeah, sometimes when stock is tight you've just got to get the order in as quick as you can and not bother with reward points or gift cards and such. I remember passing a Lbabinz notification to a coworker who was looking for a PS5 a year ago and they said thanks, "they would put in an order after finishing their lunch".

Yeah, I remember when PS5 pre-orders dropped I thought about waiting later that night to do it. Good thing I decided to not take a chance.
I did have time to activate Rakuten before making the order but it's kind of hit and miss with them. If a big four ticket Ticketmaster order from a couple of weeks ago didn't end up qualifying this probably won't either.
I did have the gift cards saved on my phone from a failed attempt earlier this morning but the order wouldn't go through so I had to rush back to the tab I had on my computer and try.
Something is definitely up with your backorder photon. I just got an email saying mine has been shipped. They shouldn't be shipping new orders before backorders.
I'm pretty shocked. NewEgg is pretty good for shipping things the same day but Best Buy has always been atleast 2-3 days for me.
Yeah yet they won't tell me what's wrong and they said they'd get a supervisor to call me but they haven't.
Maybe the one you got was one that was returned unopened or got back into the system while the back orders are waiting on a specific block of cards or something?
I mean in the end they're likely not going to be able to do anything for me beyond just telling me to wait, and I'll have no choice but to wait (unless I can find a Suprim Liquid) but still would be nice to have a logical explanation beyond the universe doesn't want me to play Cyberpunk 2077.

I was in BestBuy looking for a wall oven and asked the guy about my card order. He called someone over from the computer department and after I explained he said that what is happening shouldn't be happening. He said the order looks ok but he said it's not impossible my order is bugged somehow and it's just not getting filled.
He had the guy take some screen shots and he said he was going to look into it and get back to me. So I guess we'll see.

AMD reviews out today, looks like the 7900XTX is about the same as the 4080 in rasterization, but ray tracing is still terrible on AMD.
We'll see if nvidia drops the price on the 4080.. one could argue that the $200 difference is justified by the RT advantage, but if most gamers don't care about that then maybe they still will?
For my desire for a 4K gaming card that I can play with RT and not have to worry for a while the 7900XTX isn't it.. So I'd either have to forego RT and get an AMD, get the 4080 if it drops in price (knowing at 4K with RT I'll still have some challenges in some games) or wait for the 4090.
(Which keeps going on sale despite my backorder)

I think that depends on how well the next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt runs on my 2080.. if it's playable then I can probably wait for an 4090 FE for quite a while lol.
If not...

Why FE only though? Just price? If nothing else, I would think better cooling would be worth paying for, but I don't know how much those board partner cards cost in comparison.

For me it's partly size.. basically nothing else will fit in my case (Lian Li O11D mini air)
Price as well, the FE from BestBuy is a good deal in that it's generally cheaper than the board partners and it was undercutting exchange even a month ago, probably moreso now.
But from what I've seen the FE does really well with cooling and noise compared to the others in that there's not a huge advantage compared to the other ones, and I do like the style of the nvidia card over pretty much everything else (not that that's a huge factor in the end).
And a new case would be pretty minor compared to the card (hello Fractal Torrent) but if I can get an FE then it'll fit.
That said if an MSI Suprim Liquid appeared I'd probably buy that too.

I wish more people bought AMD, not just because Nvidia sucks as a company lately, but because competition is badly needed to get prices back down to a realistic level.

That's the thing though, everyone wants everyone ELSE to buy AMD so that they can pay the reduced price for the Nvidia card they want. They're not willing to compromise but want others to.
FSR was a big step and is obviously still improving, and needs to keep pace with DLSS. If that happens and if RT improves to a point where it's not as stark a difference then people will switch even if there is a penalty for doing so. 90% of the performance for 75% of the price is enticing, but right now it's like 80% of the performance.

My next GPU will be AMD for sure, but I bought two expensive cards this year so it’ll have to wait awhile.
It’s too bad Arc didn’t really pan out as an option for gaming rigs. I bought one for my Plex server and hopefully Intel doesn’t completely give up trying to make GPUs.
Eh, give it time. Arc isn't going to compete with the top tier cards but the biggest problems so far have been software and drivers, and that can be fixed.
