This is a great bump. jjgallow getting called out for not knowing how to read and being a dink. Either bumps the wrong thread or didn't understand the original trade they were being a dink about. I bet they disappear for another 4 months now lol

"Shaping up to be a top 10 pick at this point." even ignoring your error thinking the pick is 2023 and not 2022. no it's not. no one thinks this. The most biased Oiler homer doesn't think this. you don't even think this.

The only thing better than a poorly executed necro bump, is the CP dog pile in response.

What I have learned from my limited time on this highly, highly controlled forum is that if you defend yourself in any way against specifically @PepsiFree's insults, you will in fact disappear for 4 months because they have you blocked for that amount of time.
I have never actually seen any user break so many forum rules with regards to insults and childish behaviour as PepsiFree, but I guess when you have the ability to block anyone who stands up to you, you can do what you want. If you have no standards, of course.
Yeah so I read it wrong, https://www.nhl.com/news/calgary-fal...ns/c-330795002
Just a quick glance at the 2023 part.
Thanks everyone for the overwhelming response to that mistake.
Please don't consider the reallity that we are near basement dwellers since this trade. Which was the point of the message. I guess we're all really happy with the performance thus far.
I was never about saying that Toffoli would hurt us, my entire point on this thread has always been that he will never get us anywhere because he isn't enough, and he doesn't address our core needs on defense and net.
A whole bunch of people on here disagreed. Felt defense and net wasn't important. I'm not going to call them wrong. I don't have to. Maybe they just don't care which team wins, it's all perspective.
So even though all of those people who supported this trade are now looking up from the basement of the standings, they are all going to defend this trade to the end. Which, by the way, will be before the start of the playoffs.
Who needs first round picks when your fans are super happy with a losing team?
If I disapear from here for for months again, it will be for one reason and one reason only, @Pepsifree read this, got his feeling hurt again (despite being the agressor), and did something about it (again).

LOL.
Superb gif of John Candy acting drunk.
THEN....Fella with the handle Drunk Uncle quotes the john candy gif.
AND....Bingo dives deep into the 80's with the word "gonch" which apparently is just an Alberta/BC slang term if you google it.
I'm actually so happy this got bumped.

That isn't reality though. 1st in the division last year and then Markstrom went off the deep end in round two. Middle of the pack this year. A bit disappointing but not basement dwellers. Also, goaltending didn't appear to be an issue until wafter the trade happened.

Markstrom was a Vezina nominee last season. Saying the Toffoli trade was bad because goaltending was the bigger issue makes no sense at all.

It's not me moving the goal line. It's all the people who thought this would improve our playoff chances who are moving it.

Fun fact, since this trade, the Flames are tied for 5th overall for the most points in the NHL, only 2 points back of 3rd.

While it's true we're not "basement dwellers"...yet....
our lack of defense and goaltending should not have come as a surprise and I brought it up many, many times in this thread, and was laughed at for it.
We have no defense to speak of. And we knew that before the trade.
The conversation should end there, without even getting into the goaltender topic.
Here's the reality, Markstrom had one good season. One. In his career, and we expected him to repeat it all following seasons. But let's say he did. Let's say he had a similar season this year. With the defense we have, it wouldn't matter.
And even if it mattered, he'd be worn out and spent by playoff time, with how we are structured and ran.
That doesn't change no matter how many first round picks you throw at it for RWs.

While I agree Markstrom needs to be better, I don't necessarily agree our core issues are defense and net.
Our biggest issue is scoring and a lack of high end skill to generate that scoring.
The defense and goaltending has been suspect but the margin for error is so tight when we don't have those gamebreakers like we did last year.
In general, I like a lot of the players we acquired but I was extremely wary of signing a bunch of 30 or near 30 year old's to 7-8 year deals who had career years on other teams and typically players are on the downside of their careers by that stage.

bottom dwellers!
by the way, doesn't seem like Heineman is setting the world on fire either. Came over for camp, but went home again and only has 2 points in 9 games this season. Still fully comfortable with the trade ... sure, another late 1st round prospect would have been nice, but those are never guarantees. Toffoli is on pace for 29+29, which is more than fine.
