Yeah I thought the good year/bad year thing may have been linked to the old core but clearly it's deeper than that. Markstrom has been good one of his first three seasons with the team and that's a big problem but Coleman in two seasons hasn't really flourished, Dube hasn't taken the next step, Mangiapane is having a poor season, Lindholm has been quiet, and Huberdeau and Kadri still don't look comfortable. I think it's certainly possible that things click in the 2nd half of the season but I also think it's possible that this is going to be a write-off season. Regardless of what happens I think this team will be alot better next season because it's what recent history has shown.

Pretty hard to perform if you are constantly second guessing yourself.
Shades of Bryzgalov being lost in the woods.

The down year coming with a mature group definitely makes it feel less hopeful. The plan for success depends upon these guys being good now. Markstrom playing like a weak backup and Huberdeau being on pace for maybe 55 points are both huge letdowns.

I really hope they give Vladar the next 4 or 5 in a row, hell even give Wolf one if Vladar needs a break.
Let Markstrom reset his brain

Team needs to help him out next time he plays to help build confidence...he allowed 2 goals ffs
Pressure in this team is unreal right now... dominant loss is the end of days
A guy allowed 8 and won earlier this week

Can't believe the anti-Markstrom sentiment after a 2-1 game where the offence couldn't score more than one goal on 46 shots.
Odd.
Odd in that last night wasn't an example of a player playing poorly.
Odd in the massive over reactions that are coming from it (washed up, backup indefinitely)
I'm really glad the actual decisions are coming from less emotional people.

Bryzgalov lost the forest for the trees - he enjoyed being on HBO 24/7 so much I think it completely torpedoed his mental game.
Markstrom’s scuffling - he’s a veteran goalie who had a bad 2nd round on a team with high expectations and he’s come out less than gangbusters.
He definitely needs a breather and a reset - he wasn’t even bad last night, outside of the ridiculous brain fist (this auto-corrected fart to fist, but I’m going to leave it because ‘brain fist’ is actually a better descriptor of that first goal).
He doesn’t suck. He’s thinking too much, just like Huberdeau.
A phantom “injury” this month could be just what the doctor ordered.
Oh, and His Blasty mask is straight fire personified. Nobody with a bucket that iconic can suck for long.

he still managed to give up a freebie despite only 2 goals against
that opening sequence is what ****s a teams confidence from the get go
less than 20 shots to deal with .. still manages to be under .900
a competent goalie sends that game into OT at least .. the Habs generated very little .. markstrkms job doesn't get much easier .. but he couldn't resist leaving his net on a dangerous play

Jake Ottenger is the best goalie in the league right now IMO and has a GAA over 2
I get the criticism on the whole but bench a guy for a month because he allowed two goals and is broken is laughable

They didn't score when Vladar was standing on his head on the road trip...pretty big stretch to say they didn't finish their chances because of the first goal.
I agree Vladar has done better but blaming the goalie in a game you lose 2-1 is lame
Expecting a shutout isn't reasonable

43-18 shots deceptive. Scoring chances were closer.
Frustration cost the game on Marky and Mangipane. No other way to paint it.
Season is slipping...

expecting 1GA and an OT point or win when the habs generated next to nothing is reasonable when it comes to the game last night
there was no reason for our goalie to give up 2 on 19 while theirs gave up 1 on 45

This was always going to take time.
It’s impressive enough that we replaced two 100 point players with a 100 point player and a 100-point-pace player, but the team last year had been together for the better part of a decade.
We can’t just expect the new cast to replicate what takes years to build in 2 months.

That's too easy of an excuse. Right after it happens you would be a little rattled but eventually you settle in if nothing else has gone in.
