The regular season kicks off in May and the teams play through the best months weather wise for the year.
It also avoids the NFL and return of regular season hockey. Start the CFL season after the first round of the NHL playoffs and I think they could attract more viewers. I won’t lie yesterday I watched NFL instead like I do every year (even if the Stamps are in it).

I believe that was discussed at one time but the fear is that attendance and viewership would be poor as the NHL playoffs are in the thick of things and MLB is under way. Also May isn't great outdoor weather in the prairies.

Well you missed a great game.
They are moving the playoffs next year to Saturdays. Should have done this years ago.

I would rather watch the CFL than any non-Flame non-Oiler NHL playoffs.

while the idea of the season wrapping up around thanksgiving or perhaps even by end of october is nice - the issue would likely be with moving the start of the season up.
Having training camps in the back end of April would be tough for most teams as the weather is so unsettled
i do fear for the future of this league and i don't know what the answer is becasue i love it the way it is. i am not sure how you get kids interested in this league

I think more engagement in elementary schools would help. Let these kids spend quality time with CFL players and try to hook the younger generation in their formative years. I also like the idea of trying to have USports games and CFL games as a double-header (would likely work best on Saturdays).

IMO, another big issue, at least in the last few years, is the fact that so many players are signing just 1 year deals. Play the season with a team and then move on. It would be nice if guys would sign for multi-years, make connections to the fans and the community.

woke up today, still a little disappointed, but, mostly grateful for having the back to back, and run of success last 4 or 5 seasons where the Bombers were competitive and build up the respectable organization and gave us fans some amazing ball to enjoy. The only thing I'd change, if I could, is to swap the Cup win in Hamilton for yesterdays. Cuz screw Toronto and Hamilton has fans.
Can't wait for next year.

Most people don't pay much attention to the NHL playoffs after the first round, unless their team is still in the mix.
Starting the CFL regular season on May long weekend could be cool.
Also, what a great Grey Cup game!

I've never seen my team lose a championship and not be crushed. I think the turn around the past few years has been so solid I'm okay with losing. We played awful. I was there and so many smug rider fans cheering for the Argos. Had to remind them the past two years we won half the Grey cups they've won in 100+ years.

Hamilton is hosting the Grey Cup next year so I could see them going “all in” on Bo; maybe Toronto moves on from MBT and go with Bo and Chad Kelly?

I always thought Toronto made sense as he has a comfort level with Dinwiddie and after all they are Stampeders east and I'm sure they will be sniffing around a few Stampeders free agents in the offseason as they always do.

The Argos must do about 90% of their scouting by watching the Stamps.

Maybe the answer is to shorten the regular season? RS results mean very little in the CFL anyhow. Almost everyone makes the playoffs, and you play playoff games in different conditions from what you've played in all year long. Every playoff game is basically a coinflip unless you're in a dome.
|
in theory less games means less revenue. Maybe for some teams it means less money lost.
Nobody is going to want to give up cash.

Yeah I would rather it be Monson as I thought the defense was a weak link this season but I think this is the year Killam finally gets a head coaching job.
