If he's set I doubt that goes in.
It seems like you are trying a little sleight of hand to blame his bad decision to play the puck for his inability to make the save. As if that is better because he can still make saves, he just has to stay in his net.

It's here I disagree. Playing the angle properly has been an issue for him at times this year, and his angles were putrid in the Oilers series. He had time to make that save.

His current game has more problems than playing the puck.

On that instance, yes I do think had he stayed in his net or got back in time to properly set that shot doesn't go in. McDavid might not even try to shoot.

That goal wasn't just him playing his angles wrong. It's him not being fully in his net and trying to get a piece of it but failing.

Again, I'm blaming him for the goal regardless. Be happy.

I’m done with him. Reminds me of Mike Smith circa 2018-2019

Too many times he's been the 2nd best goalie on the ice this year. Needs to change and quick.

I asked this in the game thread. What do you do with him? How long do you give him to try figure it out?

Came into tonight with an .889, and posted an .870.

Markstrom has lost it. Pretty tough to watch.

The numbers he has put up are below NHL quality. He has now played 13 games this season - combine that with the 5 games against the Oilers and he has put together nearly a 1/4 season worth of piss poor goaltending.

What an unfortunate turn for this team.

Markstrom is done. Cooked.

Maybe we can convince a team he’s not post apex.

Give him the Smith treatment? I dunno I just hope there is some physical reason behind this play or it’s some 1 year on 1 year off thing and he bounces back. Despite my earlier sarcasm too early for buyout with many years to go on the contract. I don’t think anyone is going to trade for him either.

At this point, Markstrom has had a lower save percentage than the opposing goalie in something like 21 of his last 27 games (going back to the end of last regular season). I'll try get the exact stat later.

That's actually a pretty large sample size, and maybe, warrants some panic.

I have no confidence in Markstrom at all right now. He might well be finished as an elite goalie.

I’d like to hear that conversation.

We’d like to trade Marky, even though he’s still a very good goalie, because we need a very good goalie.

I say embrace it. He is our goalie for the next 4 seasons. He had one good year and one bad one so far. On a six year contract maybe he has 4 bad years and 2 good ones. Or we can buy him out and pay him for 9 years.
