Hmmm, that doesn't seem to be true? We've had quite a few one goal games this year, but Buffalo over Calgary 6-3, Calgary over Pittsburgh 4-1, and Nashville over Calgary 4-1 were not one-goal games (also Boston beat Calgary 3-1, but that was essentially a 1-goal game with an empty netter).

I actually felt the opposite, that Calgary has blown or almost blown a lot of leads recently. Islanders, Kraken and Oilers I felt we let games slip away to them that we should have won, and this LA game ended up way closer in the end than it should have been.

I always enjoy reading the Kings fans lamenting how much they miss Darryl.
I’m glad they appreciated him.

The Colorado game was also 5-1 at one point.

This is a discussion forum where people want to discuss the hockey team they cheer for. The vast majority of people that come here - to a PGT after a W, specifically - want to enjoy, and discuss, the win.
But some people are just ridiculously negative all the time, and re-post their negativity over and over. If all you can do after a win is complain about the imperfections - and note, I said complain, not discuss - then keep it to yourself.

No, no, poor cat. You want to vent? Go yell at the mirror.

I think he did it that way to make the real complainers feel like they weren't being targeted specifically. He ended up getting significant pushback either way.

I doubt they score six in as many games but maybe they will do it despite me. So I’m saying the score 6 in less than 13 games. And I say they score less than 220.

Less than 220? That's 2.68 GPG.
So far this year, even with their offensive struggles, they are at 3.13 GPG
I would happily take the over on 220 if you want to renew our bet
Also, good write-up!

220 goals would have ranked 27th in the NHL last year, and would seem to rank even lower this year if scoring totals across the League hold up. I don't bet on anything ever, but I am pretty confident that your wager this year is an even easier winner than the last one for whoever takes you on.

I'll take a win any day of the week, that is the aim of the game after all. Yes the games was a bit of a dogs dinner, players all over the place at times, broken plays etc etc, but I think these new lines are going to reap benefits.
Bring on the next one.

Tanev apparently had a 97% xGF last game.
Guy isn't a goal scorer, point getter, massive hitter, but is he, flat out, the best player on the team??
Subtle/quietly I think he impacts the game more than any other individual flame.

He has been since the day he was here. I've been saying for a while to give him the C if he wants it. Love watching him play the game. Not flashy, just effective.

It's important to keep in mind the schedule when talking about the team's record. The Flames have played more games against teams that are 1st in their division than against non-playoff teams. We've played 9 of the 12 teams that are in divisional playoff spots, and only 3 of the 16 that are out of the playoffs.
6-goal games are gonna be far more likely against the likes of Anaheim or Arizona.

Its not wrong, but talk like that gives me a little PTSD from the 2020/21 season when the Flames hadn't played the Sens yet, who were awful, and we all thought thats where the Flames would make up some ground. Then by the time those games rolled around, the Sens were better.

Maybe but it's a little different when it's not just one team who might have your number for whatever reason
If anything the bad teams will be in super tank mode later in the season

At this point, the impact of Tanev on the team is indisputable. The Flames are just substantially better with Tanev in the game.

That's understating it. The Flames have had the hardest schedule in the NHL in terms of quality of opponent whether you slice it by Power ranking, Points %, GF% or xGF%.
Add to that the Flames have a winning record with that schedule, while developing chemistry across all the F lines and most of the D lines, while our goalie has been inconsistent and while we've had to endure arguably your top D and top F out of the line-up for games.
It has been super exciting to watch the progress of the team over the last few games with the game against the Kings being the best yet. All lines pumping out good minutes and contributing offensively in a way that we never saw once last year.
Lots more to be optimistic about than pessimistic with the Flames.

So many years in a row where it was the coach that now people don’t know what to do with themselves when it isn’t.
Could hire another Gulutzan if people really want, I guess. Hell, could just rehire Gulutzan.

I vote that PepsiFree be suspended for mentioning this.
But yeah, Darryl on the bench is like having an x-factor/superstar on the team without them stepping on the ice.
I question his usage of specific players at time, but that's almost more on Tree than Darryl. Give Darryl better depth, and those specific players won't be put in the spots they get put in.

imo we just couldn't capitalize in the 3rd we had chances just couldn't get that back breaker, i thought LA was just playing desperate and were lucky to make it close. It just made for a more entertaining game, good to see Marky come up big in the last seconds to get the win
