He played a nice third period. Hopefully that gives him some confidence. Because it is obvious that he is seriously lacking it right now.

We have played 3 goalies on that list and likely a 4th in Jarry. Interesting to see how the numbers changed before and after playing us.

I thought Stalock was done. Probably didn't want to draw attention to himself until he escaped nogoodville.

Was perusing some stats this morning.
It's interesting, I made the point above that Markstrom really hasn't been that bad, just not that good. His goals saved above average was right near zero; not what you want for an elite starter, an average goaltender.
But that was also a perch that had it easy to improve as he didn't have to dig his way out of poor performances in the early going, just average ones.
So with that crazy 2nd period against Pittsburgh and a one goal game with rubber on net he's now 9th in the league in goals saved above average at +3.5
Top 10
Oettinger +7.2
Allen +6.3
Hart +6.2
Samsonov +6.0
Skinner +4.8
Sorokin +4.7
Reimer +4.1
Stalock +3.9
Markstrom +3.5
Thompson +3.4
Some of those names certainly suggest how early it is.

^Sorokin's game against the Rangers last night was absolutely incredible. If he can find some consistency, he might stick at the top of that list. He's been improving every year.
It's also clear that Oettinger is the best young goaltender in the game. He scares the hell out of me.

Oettinger is going to be a problem in the Western Conference. Dallas is going to be an extremely difficult out in the playoffs and not a team you want to face in the 1st round. He can easily steal a series against any team.

Agreed ... he's certainly making the case that the 7 game series against Calgary wasn't a fluke.

Yeah Marchment was a good add for them too and Wyatt Johnson looks good. Pavelski-Hintz-Robertson remains a top line in the league too.
If Seguin finds his game then that team will be really dangerous in the playoffs.

Iirc his regular season record was very very good. He just was out for a good portion of the year.

Markstrom gave up an awful goal tonight. However, you can't take those singular instances to try and build a narrative. His GSAA is still positive. He's saved more shots than have been expected to be saved by analytics. This notion would lead you to believe that the Flames as a whole have not been good defensively this season as they need to be. So- yes he should have had that shot saved tonight but overall- the team really needs to clean up their systems and defensive play if they want to turn this around.
