It's the pretentiousness that's annoying, not the sounds.

I think it's pretentious to get annoyed by it

Singh is totally the guy who calls it Barthelona after going there for 6 weeks

No I don't actually care, and that's the point. I've been reading this #### for weeks now and it's stupid. It needs to be buried, full stop.

 However,

When a bunch of white dudes are criticizing a Sikh brown man for adding a little extra R roll on his pronunciation of a name he's likely more familiar with, I just shake my head.

Again, who ####ing cares. It's a slight difference in pronunciation away from the English norms. If that ruins your night, and you have to call the broadcaster a "try hard", you might just be a racist.

No one has even mentioned race aside from you. I'm sure everyone complaining would still complain if it was Rick Ball doing it.

			So hear me out,
Geoff Ward went all Buffalo Bull and kidnapped Sutter and now he is wearing a Darryl suit behind the bench. Would make sense.

My wife is Polish with a complicated original surname.
When people ask how it's pronounced, she gives them the simplified English way of saying it since 99% of people don't roll the R correctly. I suspect Kadri's situation is very similar.

Hell, remember when Alex Chiasson said it was ok if people in Calgary used the wrong English pronunciation instead of the very French sounding correct one? I bet Kadri is perfectly fine with the English pronunciation, but it's equally fine for Singh to pronounce it more correctly to the way Kadri's family likely does.

For me it's Jarring. That's it. Change is weird for the first while. Then it just goes away. Kind of like the teardrop for the selfie cameras on a phone. It sucks for a while then it all just blends in eventually.

As an Indian dude, I can tell you race didn't need to be mentioned for it to be present in this conversation and felt by me.

Anyway, thank you, Cali.

Jesus christ. Stop bickering over and over about hockey announcers and let's talk about how awful Damon Severson can be sometimes. Nice play to gift wrap the 2nd goal. Too bad Ruff wasn't impressed!

It's the world we live in now. You can't say much of anything without someone getting offended nowadays. Take me back to the 70's and 80's when the world was a much better place.

You mean a much better place for white dudes, not so much for anyone else.

I agree with this. As my surname is polish as well I have clients who want to try and pronounce it correctly and have clients who say it as best they can in English. I take no offense to it.
