I have to wonder what media outlet would have "broken" the Nenshi story had it actually happened.
Surely there was a plan for the "he took the bait, what happens next" scenario. No doubt there were probably identified channels and people planned, step-by-step all the way.

I struggle with how much accolade/respect to give a reforming loser who is now simply managing to be a reasonable human being.

Absolutely.
People can change, but I need to see it to believe it. Right now it reeks of a guy that knows he needs to repair his image, but I need actionable proof to determine if he's doing that for the right reasons and not just optics

Why does everyone hate Brown? I listened to his Canadaland podcast from the beginning through to the Ghomeshi break, but stopped listening sometime thereafter when I just had less time to listen to podcasts overall. I haven't been keeping up with the journalism scene since then.

Excuse my ignorance, but dirty politics aside, aren't there any laws against politicians arranging bribes/illegal money/hookers, etc for political opponents? This seems like something that is highly unethical at the very least.

It doesn’t sound like blackmail unless they were threatening to release info to the media if he didn’t resign. It sounded like they were going to release it to discredit him and force him to resign.

Wonder if SaveCalgary guy is going to defend the Wenzels here.
That said, Nenshi and Carra here exemplified something I have tried to ingrain in my kids; just go to work and do your job properly. Don’t get caught up in distractions or stupid unethical things like enriching yourself at work beyond your salary.

Which would be a criminal offense with minimum 5 years, unless conspiracy to commit blackmail is less somehow less? And does the act of soliciting illegal money for the operation somehow factor into this? We don't know the full details of the plan though.
