Well, she's threatened to fire the entire AHS board, wants to "pardon" law breakers that the justice system already dealt with, vows war against Ottawa, says we can ignore laws, but also won't ignore laws if it's not legal to do so(?), left muppets like Madu and Sahndro in power, made the largest cabinet Alberta has ever seen(small government!), wants to divert tax dollars to witch doctors, goes on propaganda media outlets regularly, and has embarrassed herself by revealing she supports wacky conspiracy theories like the WEF is running the world, pulling us out of data sharing with leftist controlled medical centres like the Mayo Clinic. And that's, what, week 1?

Duane Bratt @DuaneBratt

The WEF narrative has changed. Used to be the far left that saw WEF as an evil force in the world, now it is the far right. Closer to home, here is a 2014 story where Danielle Smith (Wildrose leader) complaining about the WEF NOT meeting in Alberta.

Can I just ask the Premier instead? She apparently was upset that they didn't have their conference here in the past?

That's not true at all.

Have you read it? I would love to hear what you think is so troubling? Was it the fear of future instability caused by rising inequality and climate crisis?

Or was it the use of a large international crisis to transform a country or society?

If its the latter, perhaps you should read this: https://www.amazon.ca/Shock-Doctrine...63894578&psc=1

There’s just so much overreaction about anything and everything these days. It gets tiring. People need to settle down. We have these posters outraged over what Smith is saying when if they just settled down they would realize that Smith is actually helping their cause by digging the hole deeper. People like me that will never accept the NDP are considering taking one for the team just because we don’t want to see the world burn. I don’t think there’s much to worry about here. UCP will get some rural support but the reality is that they were up against a hill before Smith and today are practically up against a mountain. Have some faith people as Albertans aren’t as dumb as many of you like to paint them as.

I have a lot of family members who work in health care. They've seen the absolute worst of Albertans the last couple years so I don't blame them in the slightest for having absolutely no faith that this province will make the right call in the next election.

The fact that Albertans get fired up over people like Danielle Smith is a good indication that they won't stand for her ####ty brand of politics. And they should get mad and vocal about it. That's what freedom and democratic rights are, after all.

And if people don't like reading about it on CP, then use the Ignore button instead of kvetching about discourse from posters you don't like. It's the equivalent of having a headache but refusing to take the fast-acting Tylenol. It's weird.

I don't know.
I think there are quite a few people that will vote their own self interest more than what's right.
If O&G is doing fine and they're making money, they're never going to vote anything but the conservatives, no matter the form they take. (I think this is especially true in Calgary, the O&G capital)

People have proven over and over that they'll vote in their own self interest.

Edmonton will safely be NDP, but I don't trust the rest of Alberta to do the right thing.

It’s not that I don’t like you. It’s generally interesting to see people like you that are so consumed with politics that it bleeds into your day to day life. I’d like to think you have other things going on in your life that are also important. At least I hope.

So let's hypothetically say that the ucp does enough between now and the election that you do decide to hold your nose and vote ndp

Are you going to take one for the team on the next election as well if whatever permutation of the ucp emerges after that is the same?

I ask because it feels like the previous ndp gov being elected was a kind of protest/slap on the wrist for the old conservative party, sort of an attempt to teach them a lesson. Then at the first chance, the ndp was kicked to the curb and the bad conservative Gov was reimplanted, but this time somehow worse than before. I feel like yourself and many of these reluctant ndp voting albertans are just gonna revert back to this almost default ruling party that hasn't earned the privilege of being in charge of our government outside of pure name recognition

He's an odd one, that's for sure. But then, so are a few of the right-wing firebrands on this board

I love politics, especially Alberta politics. It's juicy, it's weird, and absolutely fair game for trashing. But the political hothead calling others political hotheads is always an amusing song and dance, especially when they think they're being clever.

It is possible for a very particular section of society to not have to worry about politic affecting their everyday life.

That said, there are groups of people who have no choice, their existence is inherently political.

You can choose not to be emotionally invested in politics, hell, I can choose not to. But that is because I am privileged enough to not have policy ( within reason) turn my life on its' head.

It's not the narrative that changed, its the content happening at the WEF that's changing. 10 years ago the big ideas were pushing Corporate Social Responsibility to show how ethical companies are. 20 years ago it was pushing free trade and open markets. Today they are looking at sustainability and equality.

Generally over the past 7-10 years the WEF has shifted from supporting and enhancing Neoliberal policies, to basically calling them out for the failure that they have been for a majority of workers. Since Reagan turned Conservatism into Neoliberalism, this change at the WEF has not gone over well with modern Conservatives, hence the need to attack them now.

So we will be finding a lot of Conservatives who supported the organization 10 years ago and now call them global elites.

That her issue with WEF has anything to do with the "Great Reset"

I quoted her actual comment
