Who honestly thinks a guy with a 30 game NHL track record and a career .902 save percentage is going to supplant a Vezina nominee come on.

But he's not a Vezina nominee. He's a Calgary Flames goalie, and therefore he sucks!!!

That's quite a statement.

Amazing personal knowledge of a professional athlete! And not the least bit over the top!

How do you end up 2nd in Vezina voting, have 9 shut outs, and play lights out in a first round playoff series with limited mental skills?

I'm not in panic mode about it, he's a great goalie, and his ceiling is top-of-the-league in terms of talent. I do feel like he crumbled a little in the playoffs, and I am not happy to see what feels like an early glove-side whiff in every game... puts the team in a bad place. But the team has to defend better too and not be giving up major chances - that's what putting Vladar in for Buffalo showed (was intended to show I guess).

Vladar is a different guy, plays a more quiet game. I think he's down pretty early and blocking the bottom of the net well, and guys are learning to shoot high on him because of it.

When Markstrom's on his game he's amazing. So the question for me is are we seeing a Markstrom that is returning from injury or sickness, are we just seeing early season goaltending and it will round into form, or are we seeing a genuine problem - and time will tell. I feel like he's played fine later in the games he's played in.

I think it's interesting how the league's younger goalies have been playing so well this season.

However, I also question if they can sustain that kind of play.

Could be ... certainly negative.

But I'd rather take apart the argument and make the troll look foolish than just yell "troll!" if that's the case.

So chicken or egg?

Are the Flames inept at shooting and making unknown goaltenders look good? Or are the Flames really unfortunate to have drawn some of the hottest goaltenders in the early season to start?

Hmmmm

The trouble is, the troll will just ignore you, pretend that you haven’t destroyed the argument, and repeat the same rubbish next time.

It’s like trying to clean up after a toddler who thinks it’s fun to make Mummy and Daddy suffer.

The Flames have scored 15 goals in four games and won three of them. I'd say neither of the above.

Third hypothesis: The new Lindholm line has been generating plenty of chances 5-on-5, but the three players haven't meshed to the point where they are finishing properly. This inflates their xGF without helping their actual GF. Three of the goalies on the list got there by playing significant minutes under those conditions.

I do not for a moment believe that Thompson and Skinner will turn out to be top goalies in the NHL this season.
