Oct 11 Practice Notes
Stone still practicing on the 3rd pairing with Zadorov. Looking more likely he will play against Colorado in the season opener once they actually sign him.

I am not to sure about the 3rd pairing against our next 2 opponents. The forwards will need to really get some back pressure and help the d with gap control.

I really dislike Trevor Lewis on the third line.
Really liked Rooney in that spot in his game with Coleman and Backlund, but they seem deadset on running him out at C

3rd line RW is the biggest hole on the team. It is a pitty no one came and grabbed it out of camp. I am holding hope that Pelletier is like a bull out the gate in the AHL and graduates before the regular season is up. That said, his camp was not good.

Exactly. I’d prefer if we had someone better than Rooney and Lewis to play there, as I think Rooney looked good with them but just didn’t have the skill to bury the puck. However, the opportunities were there and that’s better than what we saw in a full season of Lewis. I know that line isn’t going to be expected to score, but with Backlund and Coleman you can expect good defensive play and a goal every 2 games.
Ideally Lucic-Rooney-Lewis is your 4th line and either you acquire a new forward for that line or a new forward for the top 6 and slide Dube into the 3rd line, but with what we have Rooney is the better option.
On the plus side, at least it’s not Ritchie lol

202 foot. That bottom line might put someone though the end boards.

I could see Ruzicka working his way onto that third line and drop Lewis down

I kind of like having that spot open for a while. You know the likes of Ruzicka and 4-5 Wranglers are very aware it’s there waiting for someone to take it. It’s not every season there is a huge carrot dangling like this one.

Ruzicka hasn't impressed on the wing.
Agree with Mr Mike et al. This spot was up for grabs in training camp, it's disappointing that one of the kids didn't step up and grab it.

Top six RW is where the hole is. Toffoli is our 3RW.

That no one grabbed the spot out of camp doesn’t mean that they won’t grab it by early in the season.

Or, Sutter doesn't like the other options for 4C (Ruzicka or Lewis). Would Ruzicka even make the team if he wasn't waiver eligible?

I think if Zary stuck around all camp he could have “grabbed it” but I think the long game was in mind with him. It’s better to have him dominate in the AHL first which he looks poised to do.
Only reason I say this is cause every time I hear no one grabbed it it makes it sound like none of the young guys stood out and looked good in camp.
Zary looked good in camp and was better than some of the guys who are currently on the team.
