It wouldn't surprise me if the PP struggles out of the gate. I don't feel that Andersson is very good at bringing the puck up the ice and executing the back pass. Last year, the Flames heavily relied on Gaudreau for zone entries and I believe it is going to take them a while to get consistently good at it to begin the season.

Rasmus is a young dman who they are still developing. If they think he can run the PP who am I to argue. Hopefully he grows in the role more this year and can get his shot through more.

Time to get down to business. Get systems in place and get some practice time in so that they're ready for game 1. I do not want to see them lose another season opener.
They will lose. This is a forgone conclusion. It’s what we do.

If the Mariners can end their record playoff drought the Flames can end their record opening night drought.

Is the opening night loss streak still a thing or did we win game 1 last season? My mind is in a pretzel right now for some reason.

Wouldn't be surprised if he is signed to 1 year, league minimum and sent down to start the season, to be honest.

They lost in Edmonton on opening night last year. And then the Oilers won, like, eight of their first ten games, and the media was ready to award them the Cup at the end of October. Puljujarvi was a 1.00 pt/GP player, and Oilers fans were convinced their team was neigh unbeatable.

It was a hilariously ludicrous timeline.

Flew to Calgary Tuesday, then flew to Winnipeg Thursday. Got a morning skate in with teammates who's names he probably hasn't even heard before then played 10 minutes with lots of special teams gaps between shifts. As a bottom 6 guy I'm not sure there's anything you could expect to see

I hope that's not a hardship he can't handle. Couple hours of flights. Good luck playing in the western conference.

I may have misunderstood, but I think he said that he had to do some immigration related tasks and he ended up not flying out until 2:00 am or something like that.

I think it was probably a whirlwind couple of days. I wouldn't be too worried. He looked good at the beginning of the game. It's possible he was just really tired. Plus just the general unexpected upheaval in his routine probably made it difficult to relax. As the season gets under way and he gets settled in Calgary, I doubt the longer travel times will affect him more than what is normal for most players.

Our last opening night win is I think from 2009.

Kipprusoff in net, 5-3 win against Vancouver.

Actually, he took a commercial flight to Calgary Tuesday night, had hours of trouble with immigration, then took a commercial flight to Winnipeg Wednesday morning and did not have even one practice with his new team before playing.

Now tell me how usual that is in the Western Conference.

Has anyone watched any of Derek Stephan’s PTO’ games with the Canes?

I'm certain that's not a hardship, but I think you can take no useful information from 10 minutes of playing time in that situation

No, but I believe they said they will be offering him a contract.
