It really looked like Miami was going to score on that drive and they gave it away. Very disappointing.

Geez, just saw the replay. The sad thing is, I don’t think that was even a particularly violent play, guys get tackled and thrown down hard like that many times seeming without incident. Basically worst case scenario to have him in there in the first place.

Rewatching the play on Sunday, and then watching tonight — my guess is that he did have a back injury if he’s basically doing everything he can to brace his upper body while leaving his head completely vulnerable. I mean, I’m no expert but I think a healthy player might be better able to brace or absorb those kind of impacts better. In this case, I imagine if his back is tight and his upper body is too stiff, all of that moment and force has nowhere to go except through his head and neck. Scary stuff.

It was, however he was wobbly on Sunday, and even though he was cleared under the concussion protocol, Concussions and head injuries are funny thing.

Yeah this wasn't a particularly violent play, but the whiplash effect combined with his head and back solidly hitting the field could have exacerbated an already undetected head injury.

When I did my coaching training on concussions, the most frightening concept is someone getting a second concussion while recovering from a first concussion, it can be a nightmare scenario that can cause serious injury and death. That's why we're taught that you just don't F around with it. Even if a trainer clears a player and you don't feel at all right or safe you don't put that player back on the field.

But in the NFL and CFL and College football money trumps player safety. Coaches can lose their jobs with a bad decision like benching a starting QB without a for sure injury diagnosis. So they rush these players back in and have ways of shortcutting injury recovery and concussion protocols.

Frankly I'm surprised that more active player lawsuits haven't happened already.

On a side note, This is why its so hard to recruit young players.

And remember when we say 'field' what we really mean is concrete with a bit of green carpet over the top

It looked like taking one of my daughters barbies and rotating it by the waist. No flexibility at all in the back and the head gets hammered into the turf.

This turf is much better than what they used to play on. On one hand you get these non contact knee and Achilles injuries...but you also have natural fields like that one in Washington that did in RG3. I don't know what the answer is here other than to keep trying to improve the artificial surfaces, and use grass where it's practical.

don't you worry guys, it's all fine!

I would think TV screens are a big no-no right after a concussion, but what do I know. Surely the NFL knows best when it comes to player safety.

If Tua laughed throughout MacGruber then it confirms 100% that he definitely has severe head trauma.

It genuinely reads like parody. 50/50 he dies on the field this season.

Green Bay and Philly (and a bunch of overseas soccer stadiums) have hybrid turf/natural grass like Grassmaster and SIS that have artificial fibers stitched in to the natural grass. From what I've read, they seem very well received and are kind of the best of both worlds.

Or your kicker on that un-rooted sod in Arizona in wk 1. Didn't a couple of guys get caught up in the grass that game?

McDaniel might be the worst public speaker ever. He makes Gaudreau sound like Obama.

Right? That interview he did yesterday looked like a guy who was trying to look guilty as sin. I have never witnessed a less convincing defence of one’s actions.

I agree, simply because he seems like an idiot.
However, if cleared to play by the medical professionals, no coach will sit them.

I literally just read a story about Mike Tomlin refusing to play a guy who was medically cleared to play because he thought it was outrageous that the doctors cleared the player.

Not all coaches/nfl doctors are scum. Just most of them.
